K-1 students use scarves almost daily, from warm up songs, to ensemble dances, and individual movement exploration. In December, grades 1-5 used the parachute throughout our Nutcracker unit to dance to \"The March of the Nutcracker.\" Students of all K-5 grades have gotten to play with dance ribbons in class. The dance ribbons greatly enhanced our Lunar New Year unit this year, as students were able to replicate the dances we'd only previously been able to watch. We have also used the bean bags in class to practice hand eye coordination, passing in partners to steady beats, and in circle games.\r\nOverall, these supplies have brought so much joy to our classroom. Music class is the perfect opportunity for students to get out their energy and explore the different ways our bodies move. My students love engaging in active, movement-based lessons, and I am so thrilled to be able to give them so many tangible ways to connect to what they are learning. We are so grateful to all the local community members, out-of-state donors, and Ripple for your generosity in supporting this project. One of our favorite moments so far was learning the song \"King Kong Kitchie Kitchie Ki Me O.\" As we sang, students layered in rhythms using our new rhythm sticks, guiros, egg shakers, and cabasas. The room was alive with steady beats, bright textures, and huge smiles. Students took turns leading patterns, listening closely to one another, and working together to keep a unified tempo. We have also loved incorporating the boomwhackers as we learn note names and explore parts of the scale. Being able to physically hold and play different pitches has helped students truly see and hear how notes move up and down. It has made abstract concepts tangible and exciting. \r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their eyes widened and the room filled with gasps and cheers. They were immediately curious—carefully picking up each instrument, asking how it worked, and eager to try it. Even students who are typically more reserved couldn't wait to participate. The sense of ownership and pride they felt knowing these instruments were added especially for them made the experience even more meaningful.\r\n\r\nNext, we are building on this momentum by diving deeper into ensemble skills. Students are working on reading simple rhythmic notation and performing in small groups, where each section plays a different part. With the boomwhackers, we are beginning to build simple melodies and accompany familiar songs, helping students connect rhythm, pitch, and teamwork. Overall, these resources have enriched our classroom music lessons and spread joy throughout our school.
