When the students first saw the crates of nutritious snacks arrive, there was a collective cheer, and more than a few relieved smiles. One of my students, who usually drags their feet during the final hour of the day, looked at a Welch and asked, \"Is this for my brain power?\" It was a lighthearted moment, but it hit on a deep truth: it's nearly impossible to focus on complex math or phonics when your stomach is growling. These snacks have provided the literal fuel needed to turn that \"after-school slump\" into a second wind of productivity.\r\n\r\nHaving these resources has allowed us to turn snack time into a strategic \"brain break\" before we tackle our extra-mile learning goals. For example, during our intensive reading interventions, we now start with a \"Snack and Chat\" where students fuel up while we discuss the themes of our story in a relaxed setting. I've noticed a significant spike in stamina; students who used to check the clock every five minutes are now staying engaged through the entire session because they aren't distracted by hunger. It has transformed tutoring from something they \"have\" to do into a supportive environment where they feel taken care of.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next big goal is to channel this newfound energy into a digital learning project. Now that the kids have the physical stamina to stay focused after the bell rings, I want to provide them with iPads to access interactive reading and math programs. With a full stomach and the right technology, they'll be able to work through personalized lessons that meet them exactly where they are. Your generosity has already solved the hunger gap; now, we are excited to use that momentum to bridge the learning gap through tools that make practicing math and literacy feel like a reward rather than a chore.","fullyFundedDate":1766191424252,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-minds-providing-nutritious-snac/9635921/","projectTitle":"Fueling Minds: Providing Nutritious Snacks to Fight School Hunger","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lovee Gumera","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9164687_orig.png?crop=542,542,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1709585739534","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9164687"},{"teacherId":9164687,"projectId":9750857,"letterContent":"The \"Bringing Art and Music to Our Classroom\" project has officially turned our room into the coolest spot on campus. When the kids first saw the electric guitar and the amp, their jaws literally dropped, they couldn't believe a \"real\" instrument was staying in our room. The excitement was electric. We've been using the guitar to signal transitions and practice rhythm; the kids love feeling the vibration of the strings while we count out beats together. It has turned our morning rug time into a high-energy jam session that gets everyone focused and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nOn the art side, these high-quality canvases and acrylic paints have made my students feel like \"real\" artists. Just last week, we had a blast experimenting with balloon acrylic painting. The students loved the \"pop\" of color as they pressed inflated balloons into the thick acrylics and stamped them onto their canvases to create beautiful, marbled textures. You could see the pure focus on their faces as they bounced the balloons to mix colors, and the pride in their eyes when they realized their work wasn't just another drawing, but a textured, permanent piece of art.\r\n\r\nOur next step is \"Sound and Color\" project as they will be describing \"Ish\" feelings which combines music, art and emotions to describe it in their own way. We're moving from basic shapes to exploring how emotions and music can be captured through motion and color.
