These have been such a gift for students in my classroom. The articles are such high interest and open up so much of the world and the things happening in the world. Students in Alaska do not often travel out of the state as it is so expensive to do. By bringing both of these magazines into my classroom, we are able to visit different parts of the world, gain knowledge about various people and areas of the world. \r\n I especially love the Time magazines for my early finishers. They are all so curious what the next magazine has in it and they feel so informed to read about students and other communities in the world. These extra high interest reading opportunities are great because my students are learning, sharing their knowledge with others and really see the value and importance of being a reader. \r\n I could not bring these extra, quite fantastic magazines to our classroom on my own. It is only through people such as yourself that my students become a part of the world through words and pictures. These articles have brought reading alive in our class. I now have enough computers that every child will be able to access a variety of programs as a group or individually. This allows me to provide additional support or challenge students who need it. While it has been a bit since this was funded, it has made a world of difference in my classroom this year. We no longer have to interrupt other classrooms to borrow from them. It is amazing what can be possible with enough tools. \r\nThrough the generous gifts given, our classroom was also able to get Story Works. This magazine is phenomenal. This year the magazine had a book about the Iditarod. This of course was such a high interest story for students in Alaska. Students were able to see how their history matters and is so amazing. In the original race to get the vaccine to Nome, my students realized how the endurance of the sled dogs and mushers helped save an entire town and what endurance means in times of trouble.
