My kindergarten and my first grade students who are just learning to read and write are actually able to play music by color. They squealed with delight when they saw our new xylophones; they think they are adorable. The fact that the mallets fit into the head and look like antenna is so perfect and means they will be a lot less likely to get lost - win, win!\r\n\r\nSo far we have learned to play Mary Had a Little Lamb, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, and this past week we started learning Jingle Bells. These instruments really give these young students a chance to get started making music on a pitched instrument. Normally, kindergarteners would not be allowed to handle the pitched instruments in the classroom as they are usually quite costly and little ones have a tendency to break them easily. With these caterpillar xylophones they are able to learn how to handle and care for a pitched instrument so that when they are older they will be much less likely to break the more expensive instruments as they have had a chance to learn and practice already. They have learned to follow directions while playing, how to read which note to play, and how to keep tempo. \r\n\r\nThese instruments have truly helped my young students learn and explore a love for music. We would never have been able to have a pitched instrument for each student in class without your incredible generosity. My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts.","fullyFundedDate":1757917738542,"projectUrl":"project/chasing-a-rainbow-of-musical-possibiliti/9686470/","projectTitle":"Chasing a Rainbow of Musical Possibilities","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McGreevy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10097601"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74270","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":147,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":44,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":36,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.9,"schoolId":74270,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Academy of Tucson Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Academy of Tucson Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/academy-of-tucson/academy-of-tucson-elementary-school/74270"}
