Having high-quality materials for morning bins always gives my students a great start to their day, and they want to be on time so they can participate.\r\nI knew that morning bins were a great way for students to ease into the day, and make tardies less disruptive, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that our morning bin time gives me a chance to be present for them in whatever way the day calls for. You're in a bad mood because you had a fight with your brother this morning? Let's take a few minutes to talk about it and do some breathing exercises. You want to tell me about the cute thing your dog did? Absolutely, now is the perfect time. The counselor's at the door with four students that will be in my class today because they couldn't find a sub? Come on in, let me show you where to put your stuff and take a few minutes to teach you our rules and routines. On a good day, I even get to enjoy the morning bins with my students and learn about who they are outside of academics.\r\nOne of my favorite parts of our morning bin time has been seeing how the new toys have sparked my students' creativity. The kinetic sand is their favorite--it has been a home for our math manipulatives, food in their fancy restaurant, and so much more.","fullyFundedDate":1763553078512,"projectUrl":"project/morning-bins-for-the-cactus-crew/9889333/","projectTitle":"Morning Bins for the Cactus Crew","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Emily","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9490961_orig.jpg?crop=1980,1980,x0,y330&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1711585083070","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cactuscrew"},{"teacherId":9490961,"projectId":9495053,"letterContent":"I have to admit, when I first got my roller strips, my students were a little confused about why I was so excited about these weird silver stick things. When I showed them how they worked, they thought they were kind of cool, but it wasn't until they saw their work hanging on the roller strips that they started to understand the value that they add to our classroom.\r\nBefore the roller strips, it was all too common for me to walk into my classroom to find art that someone walking by had slipped under my door after it fell off the wall. I considered it lucky that most of the time, our hard work was picked up before it got stepped on. Taking art down became almost as hard as putting it up, as I tried to strategically cut or fold my rolls of tape to keep from managing my students' hard work.\r\nThe best part of the roller strips is how little time I have to spend thinking about them. I can take down one assignment and hang up another one in less than five minutes. That means that I can hang my students' work up the same day that they complete it, sometimes even during lunch so that they can show it off to their parents when they get picked up. Especially at such a young age, getting to show off their work so quickly helps my students develop pride in their work, and motivates them to work hard and do their best.","fullyFundedDate":1762537888002,"projectUrl":"project/showstopping-displays-in-first-grade/9495053/","projectTitle":"Showstopping Displays in First Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Emily","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9490961_orig.jpg?crop=1980,1980,x0,y330&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1711585083070","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cactuscrew"},{"teacherId":837869,"projectId":9612393,"letterContent":"Thank you for donating to our project and getting us a variety of books about Ruby Bridges and supplies for our classroom. Your generosity has allowed me to provide my students with books that are culturally relevant and meaningful, giving them options beyond the same titles that have been in classrooms for years. These books feature characters, stories, and experiences that my students can relate to, which has sparked a newfound excitement and passion for reading.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, reading in our classroom has become even more engaging. We use these books for reading aloud, partner reading, and independent reading. Students are making personal connections to the stories and reflecting on how the characters' experiences relate to their own lives. These texts are helping my students develop important literacy skills, including comprehension, vocabulary growth, and critical thinking, all while encouraging them to become confident and joyful readers.\r\n\r\nI've seen students who were previously hesitant to read show excitement and motivation to pick up a book on their own. Your generous donation has made it easier for me to do my job as a counselor, supporting all of our students' academic, social, and emotional development, promoting their mental health and overall well-being, and preparing them for future success.\r\n\r\nI have used books you donated in a number of capacities. One invaluable way that I used them last year was in my classroom counseling lessons. I deliver bi-weekly counseling lessons to all PK-2nd grade students at our school. The books you provided formed a core component of several lessons. For example, I used Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen in my PK and kinder lessons to explicitly teach students listening skills. Teaching listening skills to students is crucial, because it significantly impacts their academic success, social-emotional development, and overall well-being. Effective listening is essential for learning, communication, and building strong relationships, so it is important to teach this beginning at an early age. I read Who Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up to my first grade classes as part of a lesson on career development. Elementary school students benefit from learning about careers. It can broaden their horizons, spark their interest, increase motivation in school, and help them connect their learning to real-world applications, setting them up for future success. I used We Are All Wonders and The Empty Pot with my second graders, teaching them important character traits including integrity and non-judgement. This is important for supporting responsible citizenship and building positive relationships in our school community. I plan to continue using these wonderful books this year and in future years.\r\n\r\nIn addition to using the books in my classroom counseling lessons, I also incorporated them into my small groups and 1:1 counseling sessions. For example, I regularly read Angry Ninja and Just Now I Feel Angry to help students learn to identify and process their emotions in a healthy, positive manner, instead of blowing up and hurting themselves or others. These books equip children with coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and problem-solving techniques to deal with anger constructively. Through relatable stories and engaging activities, they learn to identify triggers, express their feelings appropriately, and develop self-control. These are vital, lifelong skills.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support.
