In our classroom, my students love showing what they've learned through art. Many of the units in science that we study do have hands-on activities that we incorporate. My students also love using art to show what they have learned even when all the hands-on activities are done. When you have eighty to ninety students using markers, they go fast. \r\n We received our washable markers, Flair markers, and dry erase markers promptly and the students were elated to begin using fresh new markers. We reviewed our habitat facts and what animals call which habitat home. They were eager to group together and illustrate it all! Usually when they finish a project, they then have to show their classmates and do a bit of teaching from their product as well. \r\n The dry erase markers also make learning cursive so much more fun. We replaced our thick fat dry erase markers with the new thin, multicolored dry erase markers. They were actually excited to write their name and other assigned cursive lessons with the new fresh colorful markers. It is amazing how the little things make such a difference. Seeing their cursive look so colorful and bright made cursive practice made it just a little more fun.","fullyFundedDate":1763609520053,"projectUrl":"project/creating-masterpieces-with-flair/9878680/","projectTitle":"Creating Masterpieces With Flair!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Caldwell-Pearson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp400150_orig.jpg?crop=892,892,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697829999060","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/400150"},{"teacherId":400150,"projectId":9852981,"letterContent":"I can't say thank you enough for our new supplies. Our new Chomp Saw has been the biggest hit. In our science classroom, I often assign various projects to my students that require getting into groups and working together. For example, when we created habitats to then demonstrate how a particular disaster would affect each habitat, they had to use an array of materials provided by me.\r\n The children began choosing their items they wanted to use. Among the choices were cotton balls, cardboard, buttons, hot glue, colored paper, markers, and anything from my teaching cabinet that I've stashed items in for 32 years. \r\n The students began gathering and trying to cut out trees, and rocks from the cardboard. The scissors were their only choice of cutting utensils available, so I had to bring out the razor blade. This was dangerous for the students and myself. The Chomp Saw has made such a difference! They were excited and eager to use it! We had to practice getting the hang of pushing the cardboard through, but it was so easy! My students and myself are humbled and so thankful to our donors! They can't wait to use it for other projects! Many are below grade level. It has become my highest priority to offer books to fit a wide-array of reading levels and interests. These book bundles have been an exciting new addition that the students are really enjoying.\r\n\r\nI have two young girls, a first grader and a fifth grader who are best friends. They stay after school for tutoring and often visit the library together. They were the first two students to find the book bundles. One picked a science bundle that she was thrilled to find included a book about constellations. The other picked a dance-themed bundle. She was excited to find a book about ballet and a biography about her favorite gymnast. \r\n\r\nThese bundles have increased circulation in my library, but the connections I've been able to build as students check them out is truly amazing. This makes my librarian heart so happy.\r\nNot only am I seeing students reading more, but their comprehension is getting better and better. For the monthly challenge, students must read 4 books and complete a summary over one of the books they've read. The challenges are set up to insure that students read a variety of genres, authors, and topics, both fiction and informational text. Even outside of the challenges, I have students coming in to talk about books they're reading, or authors they love.
