From building working circuits and prototypes, to designing and and creating solutions to solve ecosystem needs for a class pet, students have expanded their critical thinking skills and come too class excited to learn, create, and solve problems! The tools and supplies purchased will continue to help students learn, grow, and challenge themselves for years to come!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for giving our students this opportunity!\r\nSincerely, Ms. Turner, 5th and 6th grade STEAM courses\r\n\r\nThe Nintendo Switch we received has allowed our class to get in more practice time. It will also allow us the opportunity to add more people to our team. We plan on using the PS5 to join in some new gaming leagues and have a fundraising tournament at our school. The 3d pens and filament have been great to allow students to show off their creative sides. Students have been able to make things to give to others and fix items as well. All of the items have had and will continue to have a strong impact on students futures in the technology world. \r\n\r\nThank you so much!\r\nC. Rynders, 5th and 6th grade coding electives and esports\r\n\r\nhank you for your generous donation to our 5th Grade Science classroom through Ms. Turner's \"Empowering Young Innovators: Solving Real World Problems Through Integrative STEAM.\". We were able to purchase our bearded dragon \"Frank the Tank\" as the students have named him along with everything he needs! He has been an amazing addition to our classroom, we have been able to relate a lot of what we have been learning so far about ecosystems to him. For Instance, we just finished figuring out what producers and consumers are. The students realized that Frank is a consumer because he eats things. He is technically an herbivore because he eats plants and animals. With having him in the classroom students are also learning responsibility and how our actions affect other living things. An example is Frank does not like loud sounds so students are learning to still have conversations and amazing scientific ones but at a lower volume level where everyone can hear but without getting carried away.\r\n\r\n\tThank you also for our iPads and Merge Cubes. Having this in the classroom is next level: it brings in 3D models that we would not be able to see normally into the classroom, not only different ecosystems that are not typically found in Arkansas, but also the Solar System. Students are allowed to see for themselves how the Earth revolves around the sun and how the moon revolves around the Earth.\r\n\r\n\tThank you again for you support in our classroom!\r\n\tMrs. King, 5th grade science\r\n\r\nAs you can see, your generosity has touched so many of our students. We have a limited budget to work with, so we wouldn't be able to bring as many opportunities to our students if it weren't for the help of donors like you. \r\n We kicked off our project by reading the book \"Beauty and the Beak\" by Deborah Lee Rose and Jane Veltkamp. Through the story, students were able to read about Beauty, an eagle whose beak was badly damaged by a gunshot. Beauty was rescued but faced severe limitations until a group of people worked together to 3D print a new beak for her.\r\n Students then got to brainstorm other things that could be 3D printed that would help other people or solve problems that they have noticed. The students came up with some great ideas such as filters to collect trash from beaches, table corner covers to protect young children from getting hurt, and customizable casts with air holes so that as one student said, \"your skin does not stink\" as opposed to what can happen with traditional plaster casts.\r\n Afterwards, students got to see our 3D printer in action as we used it build a collection of fidgets and calm-down tools for teachers to keep in their classroom for students to use as needed. Teachers have reported that these have been very helpful tools to have in their classrooms.\r\n Thank you again for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1759323665672,"projectUrl":"project/printing-with-a-purpose/9771134/","projectTitle":"Printing with a Purpose","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Odom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2556923_orig.jpg?crop=172,172,x0,y28&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759155968200","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2556923"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_56418","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":581,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":45,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":60.0,"schoolId":56418,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Washington Middle School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Washington Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/el-dorado-school-district/washington-middle-school/56418"}
