Your purchase has directly impacted my Drawing I and 3D Design students by challenging them to reimagine self-portraits in a three-dimensional way.\r\n\r\nWe used the masks as a foundational base for a unique 3D self-portrait project. While we initially tried paper mache, we discovered it wasn't the best fit; however, the plaster of paris worked perfectly to solidify their designs! Recent storms have delayed our use of the mosaic tiles and basket kits, but we are eager to start those soon.\r\n\r\nThe most impactful moment was watching students problem-solve the \"generic\" mask forms to create features that were culturally relevant to their own identities. My Drawing I students were especially invested in the planning process, using yarn, hair, and paint to deeply consider how they want to \"present themselves to the world.\"\r\n\r\nThe students were confused but excited when they first saw the materials. My 3D Design students, many of whom had only taken Art I, initially struggled with the planning phase. However, once they had the materials in hand, they gained immense confidence in manipulating media and developed critical problem-solving skills they hadn't used before.\r\n\r\nWe look forward to sharing how the students use the mosaic tiles to add even more texture and detail to their future creations.
