Even though they're for independent reading during homeroom or for early finishers, they still support important skills such as building reading stamina, expanding vocabulary, and helping students discover books that feel meaningful to them. Most importantly, the stories reflect our students' identities, families, and lived experiences, which is especially powerful at our school, where the majority of students are Latino, low-income, and first-generation. These books help students see themselves in the stories they read, which makes reading more engaging and personal.\r\n\r\nAs a newer teacher, building a classroom library can be a real financial challenge. Many of the books we start with are hand-me-downs, and while appreciated, they often don't capture students' attention and they may not be in the best condition. Your support has filled our shelves with new, high-interest titles that students actually want to read.\r\n\r\nI keep these books on display, and it has been incredible to see students who normally don't pick up a book reach for them immediately! Several have asked to borrow Mexikid and Efren Divided simply because the covers and topics caught their attention. Seeing reluctant readers show genuine curiosity and excitement has been one of the most rewarding parts of this project.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your generosity has created a more engaging, representative, and welcoming reading space for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1757189194734,"projectUrl":"project/books-that-look-like-us-diverse-classro/9555401/","projectTitle":"Books that Look Like Us: Diverse Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ingles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9918497_orig.png?crop=484,484,x0,y30&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754601491123","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9918497"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_31239","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":827,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":92,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":31239,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Eje Charter Academy on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Eje Charter Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/cajon-valley-union-school-district/eje-elementary-academy/31239"}
