The infrared thermometers immediately sparked their curiosity—they loved being able to quickly measure the temperatures of different objects around the room. We'll soon be using the ice machine to create ice for experiments in our upcoming thermal energy unit, which will allow students to investigate how heat transfers between substances.\r\n\r\nThese new resources are already making our lessons more engaging and hands-on. Next, students will use the thermometers and ice to collect real data, analyze their results, and connect their findings to concepts about energy transfer. This book has been a powerful addition to our classroom, engaging students with its gripping storytelling and real-world connections. Through reading this text, students have developed critical thinking and research skills while exploring themes of perseverance, teamwork, and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an interactive experience. Students not only read All Thirteen but also engaged in a project where they researched different groups involved in the rescue mission, such as the Navy SEALs, cave divers, engineers, and medical teams. They then presented their findings, deepening their understanding of the collaborative effort behind the rescue. Following this, they wrote informational essays using textual evidence from the book, strengthening their ability to analyze nonfiction texts and support their ideas with evidence. They were inspired by the efforts used by each group especially the divers and some students could relate to the divers because they like to dive and explore the ocean. \r\n\r\nYour generosity has given my students access to a high-quality nonfiction text that has not only improved their reading comprehension but also inspired curiosity, collaboration, and deeper learning. One specific project that stands out is our recent exploration of plant cells. The students had a wonderful time using the microscopes to view different specimens, including leaves and parts of a plant. One student was able to find a seed under the microscope from inside the plant ovary. Their next project will be to extract strawberry DNA and observe it under a microscope.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their reactions were nothing short of enthusiastic.
