These texts have allowed us to focus on essential skills like close reading, analyzing complex language, and understanding how historical context shapes meaning. Students are learning to unpack challenging vocabulary, trace themes across a text, and examine how authors use literary devices such as symbolism, irony, and characterization. Beyond academics, these works also open the door to important conversations about human nature, society, and enduring moral questions that still resonate today.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become a more thoughtful and collaborative experience. Students engage with the novels through annotation, guided discussion, and literature circles where they work together to interpret meaning and share insights. Instead of feeling intimidated by classic texts, they are learning strategies to break them down and approach them with confidence. You can see them pausing to question the text, making connections to modern life, and building on each other's ideas in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been especially impacted by these books. One student who initially struggled with the language of older texts has taken pride in improving their comprehension and now actively contributes to discussions. Another has found a strong interest in the themes of social class and justice, often drawing connections between the novel and current events. Your generosity has helped students not only access these important works, but truly engage with them in a way that builds both skill and curiosity.","fullyFundedDate":1769178044646,"projectUrl":"project/classic-literature/9923622/","projectTitle":"Classic Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. McBride","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10100618"},{"teacherId":10100618,"projectId":9515919,"letterContent":"Your support has made a meaningful difference in how my 11th grade students experience literature. With these new texts, we've been able to deepen our literature circle discussions and focus on critical thinking skills like analyzing theme, evaluating author's craft, and making connections between texts and real-world issues. Students are practicing how to ask thoughtful questions, support their ideas with evidence, and engage respectfully with different perspectives—skills that go far beyond the English classroom.\r\nReading in our classroom is now a much more interactive and student-driven experience. Instead of simply reading independently, students meet regularly in small groups to discuss their books, take on roles, and collaborate to unpack complex ideas. You can hear lively conversations, see students annotating their texts, and watch them build confidence as they share their interpretations. These literature circles have created a space where students feel comfortable taking intellectual risks and truly owning their learning.\r\nSeveral students who were previously hesitant readers have become some of the most engaged participants. One student who rarely spoke at the beginning of the year now leads discussions and brings insightful questions to the group. Another has expressed excitement about finally finding a book they can relate to and has even started reading ahead. Your generosity has helped transform reading from a task into an experience that students look forward to, and for that, we are incredibly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1763001495022,"projectUrl":"project/inspiring-kids-to-love-reading/9515919/","projectTitle":"Inspiring Kids to Love Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. McBride","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10100618"},{"teacherId":10421312,"projectId":10067241,"letterContent":"Having been able to use the launch monitor, we've created a lot of real momentum both in our club and for our varsity boys team. Using the data taken from it, we placed 1st overall for the first time ever as far as our records go back. It could not have been down without your help. \r\n\r\nThis machine allows me as a coach to see the exact distance and launch angle, as well as other metrics combined with the ability to record swings. That data is recorded and makes teaching so much easier. We can actually watch every swing on a tablet so they can see the recorded footage. Once they can see it they can also track the data to see in real time how much better they are getting and that feedback is invaluable.\r\n\r\nThe boys have a much greater idea of what each of their clubs can do. Before they might have an idea from a distance of +/- 20 yards. Now they can get within five yards of their true distances for every club. Hopefully they can continue to improve using this technology.","fullyFundedDate":1769885460537,"projectUrl":"project/help-the-next-generation-of-golfers-achi/10067241/","projectTitle":"Help The Next Generation of Golfers Achieve Their Potential!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bossard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10421312"},{"teacherId":9076541,"projectId":9894948,"letterContent":"This project has had a meaningful impact on my students and on the way reading happens in our classroom. While many of our donors are lifelong readers, these books are also powerful teaching tools. The new texts introduce and strengthen essential skills such as close reading, critical thinking, vocabulary development, and making connections between literature and real-world experiences. Students are learning how to analyze characters, themes, and author's craft while also building empathy and a deeper understanding of perspectives beyond their own.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and student-centered. Students read independently, discuss texts in small groups, annotate passages, and share reflections aloud. Having access to engaging, high-interest books has transformed reading from something that feels like an assignment into something students are genuinely excited about. Many students who were previously reluctant readers are now choosing to read during free moments and asking for recommendations.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with these new books. Some who struggled to find texts that felt relevant to their lives now see themselves reflected in the stories, which has boosted their confidence and willingness to participate. Others who already loved reading have been challenged by more complex texts and are eager to discuss them with classmates. Overall, these books have helped create a classroom culture where reading feels inclusive, meaningful, and enjoyable, and that is entirely because of the generosity of our donors.","fullyFundedDate":1764503602181,"projectUrl":"project/the-gift-of-reading/9894948/","projectTitle":"The Gift of Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Avila","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9076541_orig.jpg?crop=826,826,x1118,y1098&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761684110883","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9076541"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_31484","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2336,"numTeachers":88,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":85,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"26.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.4,"schoolId":31484,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central Valley High School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Central Valley High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/ceres-unified-school-district/central-valley-high-school/31484"}
