Every item you helped provide has made a real difference in our daily experience.\r\n\r\nOne of the most special moments came when my students helped put up the new decorations. They were so excited to feature their House on Mango Street inspired vignettes on the walls and take ownership of the space. As they added their writing and helped design the displays, there was a real sense of pride and community in the room. The rug and standing table have quickly become their favorite. They now serve as a reading center where students can work independently or in small groups. Several students consistently ask to sit there, saying it helps them focus and makes reading feel more enjoyable. The warm lights have added a cozy, calming vibe that's helped set the tone for focused and creative work.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're continuing our vignette writing project, and students are using the posters and organized materials to guide their brainstorming and drafting. Next, we'll host a classroom gallery walk to celebrate their final pieces. In a classroom for students with moderate to severe disabilities, the integration of a colored printer and laminator has significantly enhanced both learning and communication. A colored printer allows for the creation of visually engaging, personalized materials tailored to the unique needs of each student. For instance, I am able to print visual aids, flashcards, and schedules using bright colors that help capture students' attention and promote retention. These materials are essential for supporting visual learners, aiding in language development, and enhancing comprehension through tactile and sensory engagement. The ability to print in color allows for differentiation of tasks and activities, creating a more inclusive learning environment that addresses varying levels of cognitive and sensory processing.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the laminator plays a crucial role in preserving these materials, ensuring they are durable enough to withstand frequent handling. Many students in these classrooms benefit from tactile learning experiences, and laminated materials provide a sensory-friendly way to engage with educational content. Laminated items, such as communication boards, charts, or behavior trackers, can be used repeatedly without degrading, which is especially beneficial for students who rely on these tools for consistent daily routines or reinforcement. This ability to reuse materials reduces costs and time spent on preparation while offering a consistent, structured environment that is essential for students with disabilities. Overall, the combination of a colored printer and laminator supports individualized learning, independence, and long-term engagement for students with moderate to severe disabilities.","fullyFundedDate":1732390733695,"projectUrl":"project/adding-color-to-our-work/8903038/","projectTitle":"Adding Color to Our Work","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9815856"},{"teacherId":9833988,"projectId":8940049,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in funding my Stress Less, Learn Best project. The privacy shields have been incredibly useful, giving students a distraction-free space during independent work and assessments. Numerous times I have students come to my office to need a space to take a break from the stressors of life. Many times students know they need the support however do not know how to speak about their emotions. I have students regulate while coloring and it often gives them opportunity to open up about what they are feeling. I am then able to help them process and show how a coping skill such as coloring can be a helpful tool to them when they are feeling dysregulated.\r\n\r\nThe books donated through were books on mental health and counseling. I have been able to read through the literature about various practices that are effective and shared those practices with my team and administrators. \r\n\r\nThe fidget toys have been a wonderful addition, offering students immediate support in my office and during our meetings. I have many 504s and SSTs where students are in need of supports to help them focus in class. These fidget toys have been helpful to students and made them feels seen and heard when we are able to offer tangible items to them in meetings.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the sticky notes have proven invaluable for students needing reminders and assistance with their to-do lists. Many times students don't have a process to writing reminders to themselves or to do lists.
