Because of your generosity, my students now have meaningful tools—both the books and our new light-based breathing buddies—to help them understand and manage their emotions. The texts introduce skills such as naming feelings, recognizing body signals, identifying calming strategies, and using respectful language to begin conversations about what they're experiencing. These may seem like simple lessons, but for young learners, they are life-changing foundations for empathy, communication, and emotional resilience.\r\nReading in our classroom has become a truly interactive and reflective process. During our SEL read-alouds, students pause to make connections, practice the strategies from the story, and share moments when they've felt similar emotions. The breathing buddies have quickly become a favorite tool—students hold them in their hands and follow the gentle color-changing lights to guide their inhale and exhale. It's amazing to watch them settle into the rhythm, and even more amazing to see them independently reach for a breathing buddy whenever they need a calm moment.\r\nSeveral students have shown remarkable growth thanks to these materials. One quiet student who often struggled to express frustration now proudly uses phrases from the book to start conversations like, \"I'm feeling worried, and I need a break.\" Another student who had difficulty calming down after recess now holds a breathing buddy at his desk and follows the light pattern to regulate his body, even modeling the strategy for classmates. These small moments capture the big impact your support has created—our classroom is calmer, kinder, and more confident because of you.\r\nThank you again for believing in my students and giving them the resources to understand themselves and each other. Your generosity is shaping skills they will use for the rest of their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1757875461491,"projectUrl":"project/a-spot-for-every-feeling-growing-confid/9690939/","projectTitle":"A Spot for Every Feeling: Growing Confidence Through SEL","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Guglielmo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8433803"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7736","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":317,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":78,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.5,"schoolId":7736,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about George W Carver Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"George W Carver Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/compton-unified-school-district/george-w-carver-elementary-school/7736"}
