Tale of Despereaux is a story of accepting someone that is different. It does it in a way that kids enjoy reading it. My students read this aloud in class and we learn vocabulary used in the book. They use tiered vocabulary and then place the words in a table which they make inferences about. When they have completed their inferences, they look up definitions and then write their own sentences. \r\n\r\nSometimes students enjoy picking other students to read the story. We also will have other readers outside the class come in to read the novel. Reading comprehension is also important and I've seen big improvements since we started summarizing and having students read their summaries to table groups. Summaries reinforce learning and comprehension. \r\n\r\nSome students are very confident with their reading and will volunteer over and over. Its so nice to see a student that loves to read like some of them do. I encourage all of my students to read even if they are not sure of themselves. It is only with making an effort that we can be better in anything. Thanks for giving them these experiences!","fullyFundedDate":1772504980505,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-5th-grade-class/10057208/","projectTitle":"Books for 5th Grade Class","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jensen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10349930"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_25458","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":348,"numTeachers":14,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":87,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"24.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.5,"schoolId":25458,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about California Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"California Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/hacienda-la-puente-usd/california-elementary-school/25458"}
