Your support in providing an ice machine, light filters for creating a calm environment, and an Apple Pencil to enhance our students' mindfulness practice has touched the hearts of our staff and students alike. These gifts will go a long way in helping us nurture the emotional, physical, and academic well-being of the young people we serve.In our health office, we've been integrating the new resources into our daily routines.\r\n\r\nIce Machine for Student Support\r\nWe were absolutely thrilled to receive the ice machine. As you can imagine, students sometimes need immediate access to ice for a variety of reasons—whether for minor injuries during physical activities or to provide a quick \"shock\" to the system when panic attacks, hyperventilating, or other situations where someone may not be able to regulate happen. We use the ice as a way to bring students to be present. \r\nIn the past, we had to rely on small coolers that got filled up in the cafeteria or athletic training office which could be cumbersome and inefficient. With this new machine, students now have the resources they need right away, allowing them to get back to their classes without unnecessary delay. This simple yet incredibly valuable addition has made a noticeable difference in our day-to-day operations and has already helped students feel cared for and supported in moments of need.\r\n\r\nLight Filters for a Calming Environment\r\nThe light filters you provided have been a transformative addition to our health office resting space. Many of our students are sensitive to harsh fluorescent lighting, which can cause headaches, eye strain, and increased anxiety. With the installation of these filters, the students have a calmer, dimmer, and more restorative place to recover. The softer, warmer light fosters a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere that promotes focus and reduces distractions. This improvement has been particularly beneficial for students who struggle with sensory sensitivities and mental health episodes and need a more serene environment to recover. It has created a space where all students can feel comfortable and cared for so they can get back to class and thrive academically.\r\n\r\nApple Pencil for Mindful Apps on iPads\r\nThe Apple Pencil has been a game-changer for our students who are learning to engage with mindfulness practices on the iPads. With the integration of mindful apps, the Apple Pencil allows them to engage more deeply in activities that promote focus, self-regulation, and emotional resilience. From guided meditations to interactive drawing exercises, the pencil enhances the tactile experience and provides students with a creative outlet for their emotions. It has already proven to be an invaluable tool in helping students take a moment of calm during their day. By encouraging self-awareness and emotional well-being, these mindfulness activities support students in not only managing stress but also in becoming more present and mindful in their learning environment.\r\n\r\nTogether, these gifts demonstrate a profound understanding of the diverse needs of our students, and we are deeply grateful for your kindness and thoughtfulness. Your support not only improves the daily experience for our students but also fosters a deeper sense of community and care. It is because of people like you that we are able to create a nurturing environment where all of our students can grow, learn, and thrive.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your generosity and commitment to the well-being of our students. We are excited to see the continued positive impact these donations will have as we move forward, and we look forward to sharing more stories of how they are making a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1728065755335,"projectUrl":"project/cultivating-mental-wellness-in-students/8818240/","projectTitle":"Cultivating Mental Wellness in Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McLean-Crawford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1190385_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y84&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727216047947","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1190385"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_91958","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":3130,"numTeachers":129,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":56,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":20,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"24.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":74.1,"schoolId":91958,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Fountain Valley High School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Fountain Valley High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/huntington-beach-union-hs-dist/fountain-valley-high-school/91958"}
