When I originally requested donations, the book club was scheduled to meet in the fall. Due to some calendar changes, it was moved to the spring, so please accept my apologies for sending this letter several months later than planned.\r\nI had 17 students sign up to attend the book club which is an amazing number for our charter school. I am thrilled that students of all reading levels joined, and each child received their own books to keep. My goal is to instill a love for reading while encouraging creativity through activities connected to both fiction and nonfiction books.\r\nThe students are pretending they are Jack and enjoy writing in their journals as they read. We discussed three themes in the first book, \"Dinosaurs Before Dark\": teamwork, siblings, and imagination. Just like Jack in the story, the students are taking notes while they read and thinking about how these themes appear in the book.\r\nAfter finishing the book, students created either a \"Sillysaurus\" or a dinosaur diorama. At our book club meeting, they proudly presented their wonderful creations. They were especially excited to receive the bracelets after sharing their presentations. \r\nThe students are currently reading \"A Big Day for Baseball\" and \"Baseball's Greatest Players\" by Andrew Martin. They are creating a timeline of the history of baseball, designing a new baseball card, or creating a new jersey for Jackie Robinson. They will share their projects at our next meeting and will receive the bat you donated as a reward. The second graders will be so excited!\r\nOnce again, thank you for your generous contributions.
