The graphic novels support comprehension and sequencing, while the chapter-style series introduce dialogue, story structure, and deeper thinking about characters and their actions.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active, joyful, and student centered. Students read independently, with partners, and during small group instruction. Choice plays a big role. Students select books that interest them and read in comfortable spaces around the room. These new series have increased reading stamina and excitement. Students are eager to finish one book and immediately start the next, which has helped build confidence and consistency in their reading habits.\r\n\r\nSeveral students are especially enjoying these new books. Some readers who were previously hesitant are drawn to the humor and illustrations in Investigators and Narwhal and Jelly, which helps them stay engaged and read for longer periods of time. They immediately wanted to explore all the different paper options. The laminated sheets were a big hit too. They love being able to write, erase, and try again.
