Many of my students struggle in their other classes and often feel overwhelmed or frustrated. In our support class, they are able to slow down, relax on a beanbag, and get lost in a good book. This sense of comfort has made a big difference in how they approach learning and reading.\r\n\r\nThe new books help students build several important reading skills. Students are practicing comprehension by identifying main ideas, key details, and making connections to the text. Many of the books also support vocabulary development, since students are exposed to new words in meaningful and engaging ways. For some students, these texts are helping them build stamina by learning how to stay focused and read for longer periods of time without feeling stressed. Most importantly, the books help students see reading as something enjoyable rather than something intimidating.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks calm, engaging, and student-centered. Students choose books that interest them and read at their own pace. Some students read independently, while others quietly discuss stories with a partner or ask questions about what they are reading. The flexible seating allows them to feel comfortable and supported, which helps them stay focused and motivated.\r\n\r\nSeveral students are especially enjoying the new books, particularly those who usually struggle with reading. Students who were once hesitant to pick up a book are now choosing to read during free time. One student shared that reading in this space helps them feel relaxed and less anxious, while another enjoys finally finding books that feel \"just right\" for them. Seeing students feel confident and excited about reading has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our classroom and helping create a space where students feel safe, relaxed, and excited to learn. Your generosity has truly made a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1762272222882,"projectUrl":"project/a-place-to-reset-refocus-and-rise/9633737/","projectTitle":"A Place to Reset, Refocus, and Rise","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Arita","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9440661"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7111","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1258,"numTeachers":62,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":87,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":77.8,"schoolId":7111,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Robert Fulton College Preparatory School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Robert Fulton College Preparatory School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/robert-fulton-clg-prep-school/7111"}
