When the books arrived, students were thrilled—many quickly found stories that reflected their language, culture, or interests. We've been using them during independent reading and bilingual buddy reading time, and it's been amazing to see students more excited and confident when reading in both English and Spanish. One quiet student even volunteered to read aloud a new book to a classmate—something they've never done before! Our next step is a writing project where students will create their own stories inspired by the new books. These materials allowed me to create high-quality, reusable resources like bilingual vocabulary cards, math games, behavior supports, and center activities that are durable enough to use again and again. This made our lessons more hands-on and engaging—especially important in a dual language first grade classroom where visual supports are key. Students were excited to interact with materials they could write on with dry-erase markers, wipe clean, and reuse, giving them more ownership of their learning. The project had a big impact on student participation and independence, especially for English language learners and students who benefit from repeated practice. One student who was often hesitant to join small groups became more confident using laminated tools, saying they helped him \"practice without messing up.\" Because of these materials, I was able to teach more creatively and provide differentiated instruction in a way that truly met my students' needs. These pouches allow us to create durable, reusable resources like vocabulary cards, bilingual learning tools, behavior charts, and hands-on activities that can withstand daily use—especially in a busy first grade classroom. For our young learners, especially in a dual language setting, it's exciting to use materials that feel \"special\" and last longer. Students love using laminated cards during small groups, centers, and independent work because they can write on them with dry-erase markers and wipe them clean, making learning more interactive and fun. One student who struggles with focus has especially taken to these laminated tools; he loves being able to use the same card multiple times, and it's helped boost both his confidence and participation. The laminating pouches may seem simple, but they've brought lasting value to our classroom—making learning more hands-on, engaging, and accessible for every child.","fullyFundedDate":1743005412910,"projectUrl":"project/keeping-k-1st-grade-memories/9063310/","projectTitle":"Keeping K/ 1st grade Memories","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Diaz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9027002_orig.jpg?crop=400,400,x0,y18&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683481760905","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9027002"},{"teacherId":9027002,"projectId":9222793,"letterContent":"In our dual language first grade class, giving bracelets to student peers had a powerful impact on building compassion and kindness. The students were thrilled when I explained the steps we would take to spread awareness in other classrooms and how we would be donating items to the animal shelter. But what truly excited them most was the opportunity to \"adopt\" a pet. Even though it was just a plushie, they were overjoyed—and many even took the initiative to build little homes for their new companions. It was heartwarming to see them go the extra mile.\r\n\r\nThey also did an excellent job researching and writing about the importance of responsible pet ownership and why adoption matters. After working all year to build their oral communication skills, seeing them confidently present to other classrooms made me incredibly proud. They are using all materials during centers/free choice time. There were several moments of engagement, but one of many that the students enjoyed was learning about insects. Students were engaged in a science center where students dressed up and used materials to investigate bugs. Their first reaction was amazing, because they saw all the materials they would be able to use, from putting on a vest, a hat, using a lamp and magnifying glasses to observe insects. \r\nThe next steps are to plan centers more intentionally aligned with our monthly theme. As such, I was able to plan such during our animal/insects lessons. Students were able to engage in several centers with material that target the lessons of the week, such as tracing bugs with stencils, picking out bugs with tongs, and exploring/observing bugs with the explorer kit. After observing student's learning and engagement, I will continue implementing such lessons in the future. The impact that this new resource had was amazing, and is truly appreciated. The way I am using the water table was by adding a new center/area in my free-choice planning. This center/area was with the purpose of students engaging with water toys and the water table. The students were very much engaged as they explored and used their creativity with new water toys. In addition, they develop their fine motor and social skills. They get to play in a hands-on activity, and play with other students while learning how to share, as well as problem solve as they wait for their turn.\r\n The students first reaction was incredibly happy and amazed. At first, they saw the new box delivered in our classroom and started asking what it was. I told them a little surprise for all students. Then, as my parent volunteers started putting it together, the student's curiosity began. Once the water table was ready, the students then started asking what is was. As such, I asked them what they think it is and how can we use it? Some shared good ideas, and some said \"you can put water to play.\" And that's exactly what we did right after. Furthermore, the next step for a classroom lesson will be for students to demonstrate how they can use machines and materials to construct a bridge over the water table (part of the theme 5 for TK, Spanish-Frog Street).","fullyFundedDate":1731100154180,"projectUrl":"project/students-get-ready-to-play-and-get-spli/8891261/","projectTitle":"Students!
