We spent several days with the microscopes. Students were able to build confidence, learn a new skill, and see with their own eyes the very tiny things that were only concepts before. \r\nThere were enough microscopes that every student had the opportunity to learn how to handle a compound light microscope, make a wet mount, focus on their specimen and record what they saw and calculate the magnification they used. \r\n\r\nThese skills really helped students to build their confidence. This helps them to take the initiative in their learning; a skill they can apply to many aspects of their lives.\r\n\r\nStudents were excited to see the fixed specimens that were one the slides that were provided. They were given an entire class period to choose slides, focus using different magnifications and light filters, and record their findings. When they actually made wet mounds using aquatic plants from our classroom aquarium and one group find motile photosynthetic organism, they nearly lost their minds with excitement. \r\n\r\nThank you for the best day yet for 7th grade science class!","fullyFundedDate":1765510109862,"projectUrl":"project/inspire-wonder/9859593/","projectTitle":"Inspire Wonder","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Morrison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10332997"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40247","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":731,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":81,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":64.6,"schoolId":40247,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Yolo Middle School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Yolo Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/newman-crows-landing-unified-school-district/yolo-middle-school/40247"}
