Because of your kindness, my 5th and 6th graders now have access to engaging, high-interest novels that have transformed the way they experience reading. We are currently reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, and it has opened the door to lessons on identifying theme, analyzing character motivations, understanding Greek mythology, and citing text evidence from complex narrative scenes. Having a class set of this novel has allowed students to dig deeply into each chapter together, making our discussions richer and more meaningful.\r\n\r\nReading time in our classroom has become one of the most joyful and focused parts of the day. Students settle into their spots quickly, books in hand, eager to jump back into Percy's journey. Our conversations now include students flipping back to favorite moments, marking pages with evidence, learning new vocabulary, and making predictions based on what they've noticed. These novels have also strengthened our small-group instruction; with everyone reading the same text, I can support students at different skill levels more effectively while still keeping them highly engaged.\r\n\r\nSome students who previously struggled to stay motivated during independent reading are now completely absorbed in the story. A few have even asked to borrow their books to read at recess or \"just finish the next chapter at home.\" One student who often had difficulty choosing a book to stick with has proudly finished his first major novel this year and is already excited to move on to the next book in the series. Moments like these make it clear how powerful access to the right book can be.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in our classroom and helping build a community of enthusiastic, confident readers. Your generosity has made an immediate and meaningful difference for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1757477124150,"projectUrl":"project/a-novel-idea-books-for-every-reader/9698243/","projectTitle":"A Novel Idea: Books for Every Reader!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ramos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10248487_orig.jpg?crop=450,450,x0,y43&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757363975011","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10248487"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_30732","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":395,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":89,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"20.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.4,"schoolId":30732,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Yorbita Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Yorbita Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/rowland-unified-school-district/yorbita-elementary-school/30732"}
