With at least two read-alouds each day, students are immersed in rich language, expressive storytelling, and new vocabulary. The puppet theater has given them an exciting space to bring those stories to life. Through dramatic play and retellings, children practice sequencing events, using character dialogue, and incorporating new words they've heard during reading. This active engagement strengthens both comprehension and oral language skills in a way that feels joyful and natural.\r\n\r\nStudents have been amazingly engaged in our new classroom addition—it has quickly become the favorite center in the room! After listening to stories, children eagerly gather at the puppet theater to recreate scenes, invent alternate endings, and collaborate with classmates. As they take on different roles, they experiment with expressive language, descriptive words, and story-specific vocabulary. We've noticed students using new phrases from our read-alouds in their play, which shows growing confidence and deeper understanding. The social aspect of puppet play also supports turn-taking, listening skills, and cooperative storytelling.\r\n\r\nWe even dedicated a full week of activities to learning about cultures that celebrate Lunar New Year, and the puppet theater became a central part of that exploration. After reading stories and informational texts, students used puppets to retell traditions, act out celebrations, and share what they learned about family gatherings, special foods, and cultural symbols. This experience not only expanded their vocabulary but also helped them build cultural awareness and appreciation through imaginative play. The puppet theater has truly transformed our classroom into a vibrant space where literacy, creativity, and cultural learning come together.","fullyFundedDate":1764707190110,"projectUrl":"project/stories-that-connect-us/9926879/","projectTitle":"Stories That Connect Us","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ebba","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10334710"},{"teacherId":10333767,"projectId":9927578,"letterContent":"Thank you again for bringing the Lakeshore Magnet Kit (#PP512) from Lakeshore Learning Materials into our TK classroom! One of the things that we are using the magnets to investigate is what objects they attract, do not attract, and even repel. Students worked in pairs, during center time, to test the items in the kits—and sort them into \"magnetic\" and \"not magnetic\" categories. When they first saw the materials, their eyes lit up with excitement, and they couldn't wait to explore. Many students were amazed to feel two magnets push away from each other for the first time. The children were able to continue their investigations by following the picture instructions on the experiment cards that come with the kit.\r\n\r\nNext, we are building on this discovery by recording our findings in simple charts, making predictions before testing new objects, and learning why certain materials like metal are magnetic.
