The new books you helped provide have not only filled our library shelves but have sparked a schoolwide excitement for reading that we've never seen before.\r\n\r\nWhile many of our donors love reading (we do, too!), teaching students how to read with depth and confidence is its own craft. These Battle of the Books titles introduced essential skills such as summarizing key events, tracking character development, noticing theme, and gathering evidence from the text to support answers during competition. Students also learned how to collaborate, discuss books respectfully, and prepare as a team—skills that will support them far beyond this event.\r\n\r\nReading at Columbine looks joyful, social, and full of energy. Students meet during recess and after school to practice, quiz each other, and reread favorite parts. In the library, you'll often find small groups spread out with books open, sticky notes everywhere, and students debating plot twists or helping each other understand tricky sections.\r\n\r\nSome of the most meaningful moments have come from students who connected deeply with these new books. One emerging bilingual student proudly shared that it was the first time she felt \"ready to compete\" because she could access the stories in both English and Spanish. Another student—typically quiet during class—has become one of our strongest team leaders, guiding group discussions and encouraging peers to keep reading. Even reluctant readers have taken ownership, showing up every week with a book in hand and a spark of confidence we hadn't seen before.\r\n\r\nYour generosity made it possible for our students to experience reading not just as a school task, but as a community event filled with teamwork, pride, and joy. Our first-ever Battle of the Books was a powerful success—and it all started with the books you helped bring to Columbine.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our readers.","fullyFundedDate":1761228220068,"projectUrl":"project/first-battle-of-the-books-readers-turn/9810476/","projectTitle":"First Battle of the Books: Readers Turn into Champions!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cox","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4337888_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1488765353634","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4337888"},{"teacherId":9633576,"projectId":9585307,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of my Donors Choose project.\r\n\r\nThe Zones curriculum has been very engaging for my students. We planned and created several different projects using kiln fired clay and glaze. Clay is the most popular of all art materials with my students. I was very grateful I could teach with this medium to all of my elementary aged students which is over 400. The most expensive part of clay projects are the glazes. The money provided by Donors Choose let me purchase quality glazes so that each child's project lasts decades.\r\n\r\nMy students were very excited to build out of clay. Some projects were tied to the general education classroom subjects. This made learning even deeper and more engaging. A couple examples were ceramic African masks and Mexican Folk Art Clay Suns. With the saturated color of the glazes used, these pieces are always my students' and their families' favorites. Thanks for making this all possible.","fullyFundedDate":1737140470095,"projectUrl":"project/creating-in-3-dimensions-2/9061697/","projectTitle":"Creating in 3 Dimensions #2","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. M.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9301282"},{"teacherId":88284,"projectId":8577652,"letterContent":"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous contributions to our classroom! This is the first project I have had funded. The materials I was able to buy through this project support my students because in a school setting we have limited funding for classroom materials, and because I work in a bilingual school and need resources in Spanish and English.\r\n\r\nSome of the materials that have been inspiring and helpful for my students include exciting new picture books, including Jabari Jumps, the beautiful story of a young boy overcoming a fear. My students and I work together to learn new vocabulary words, story grammar and a love of listening to, understanding and telling stories. These skills will last them a lifetime and improve their receptive and expressive language skills. I also work with students on the autism spectrum and use the new Social Inferences fun deck that was part of my project to present different scenarios to my students and to work through how to make inferences, predictions and to solve problems that can translate to their daily interactions. \r\nThank you so much these items and the many others that you so kindly you have provided to support my very special students.","fullyFundedDate":1727462851429,"projectUrl":"project/flex-your-communication-muscles/8577636/","projectTitle":"Flex your Communication Muscles","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Carolyn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2717246"},{"teacherId":9301282,"projectId":8937511,"letterContent":"My students used the resources I purchased to make plaster masks.
