The books I requested expand the topics that my counseling library includes and addresses: new siblings, separation and divorce, families of all compositions, racial and ethnic diversity, trauma, belonging, autism, ADHD and learning differences. The library now is much more wide-ranging and inclusive. When families request books on a certain topic(s) to read at home with their children, they now have many more relevant topics and reading levels to choose from, and that facilitated literacy and quality time together with their children is powerful — both for strengthening family relationships and for the child learning and practicing social-emotional skills. The feedback from parents and kids who've borrowed books has been truly heartening and beautiful. \r\n\r\nI also received various thumb-balls and wooden dolls for my counseling program. The thumb-balls have offered much more active participation and connection between my more high-energy classes and small groups, and the wooden dolls bring key diversity of race, age, family composition and more into the counseling room dollhouse, where children are able to select dolls they feel represent themselves, their families and their friends to play with and practice social-emotional skills with.\r\n\r\nI so appreciate your funding of this project — with these tools and resources, my counseling and SEL program feels much more representative, helpful, and well-rounded for our students and community.
