First of all, books, books and more books from Spot on Feelings to numerous others on specific topics - failure, depression, belonging, gratitude, imagination, empathy - were welcomed and appreciated. As a result, there are a plethora of specific areas to explore more in-depth with students by offering them a choice in picking one that resonates with them and then having to explain to peers.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, to the sand for the sandbox, to the calming strips, the flexible chair bands, and the floor cushions and wiggle seats for movement, the kids now have other tactile options to explore and to borrow as needed to regulate their nervous system.\r\n\r\nPicture #1: How Do You Feel? Spot it. Name it. Say It.\r\nPicture #2: Sitting on the butterfly wiggle seat to add movement to a seated activity.\r\nPicture #3: Sitting on a floor chair and reading a new book (feeling stuffies nearby).\r\nPicture #4: Using the sandbox for exploring touch.\r\nPicture #5; Reading a Book about Empathy in the Calming Corner.\r\nPicture #6: Reading a Book about Failure while seated on a wiggle seat.\r\n\r\nWhen asked about the \"scribble\" feelings, students shared what they observed: overwhelmed, out of control, all over the place, like my mind sometimes, and confused.\r\n\r\nAll of these new items for the Counseling Center contribute to more creativity, imagination, and focus; additionally, there is space for further problem solving which can be transferred to the classroom environment.
