With the books purchased using your donations, my students have been actively involved in the process of selecting the State of Connecticut Nutmeg Book Award winners for 2025. The impact on student engagement and excitement around reading and the award selection process is immeasurable. I have seen reluctant readers anxious to check out books to read and been witness to wonderful discussions about the stories, characters, and settings put forth by this year's award nominees. As with any group of diverse learners, we need creative methods to encourage readers to challenge themselves and work to their best potential. Having new books to read, review, and discuss has helped to create a welcoming and collaborative learning environment to the benefit of all students.\r\n\r\nWorking through the nominees, students have been exposed to multiple genres including biographies, graphic novels, adventures, and more. With each book students have had an opportunity to explore the works of diverse authors and illustrators, each offering a unique worldview that challenges, informs, and inspires. This project created learning opportunities for my students that they would not have been able to experience without your support. \r\n\r\nThank you for your dedication to student learning. Engaging library media students in a world full of technology can be a challenge. It has been so gratifying to see students make strong connections with books and stories from the Nutmeg Award nominees. Giving students a voice in the process of selecting winners has empowered them and helped them feel connected to literature in a way not otherwise possible. The impact of your generosity was both immediate and long term.
