Because of you, our 7th and 8th grade Spanish Immersion students now have access to engaging, level-appropriate Spanish novels that allow every student to fully participate in our CÃrculos Literarios. These new texts are helping students strengthen key skills such as reading comprehension, vocabulary development, inferencing, and oral communication — all in an authentic, meaningful way. Through the stories, students are also exploring diverse cultures and perspectives, building empathy and global awareness alongside their language skills.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is highly collaborative. Students read independently and in small groups, take on discussion roles, and come together to share ideas, ask questions, and make personal and cultural connections — all in Spanish. The new books have transformed these reading circles: students are more confident speaking, more willing to take risks, and more excited to contribute because they truly understand and connect with what they are reading.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were previously hesitant readers are now among the most enthusiastic participants. Having books that match their interests and reading levels has made a huge difference — they are eager to read, proud to share their thoughts, and increasingly confident using Spanish to express complex ideas. Thanks to you, our students are not only improving academically, but also growing into motivated, lifelong readers and proud bilingual learners. The class favorites so far have been The Big Book of WOW, Free Lunch, and Gamerville. \r\nIt's no surprise that an increase in reading has a lasting impact on students; whether increasing vocabulary or curiosity, we need to get more reading minutes in for students. Because of your generosity, my students now have access to a Scholastic Science World subscription, a BrainPOP subscription, a mobile whiteboard, and whiteboard supplies, and the impact has been immediate and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThe Scholastic Science World magazines have strengthened our content-area reading by giving students high-interest, real-world science texts that connect directly to what we are learning. Students are more motivated to read, ask questions, and make connections between science concepts and current events.\r\n\r\nWith BrainPOP, lessons have become more interactive and accessible. The videos and activities support different learning styles and help students better understand complex ideas, leading to richer discussions and stronger comprehension.\r\n\r\nThe mobile whiteboard and supplies have transformed how students participate during class. Students now regularly lead discussions, explain their thinking, and collaborate with peers by sharing ideas visually. This has boosted confidence, encouraged student voice, and increased overall engagement.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students are not just learning science—they are actively participating, discussing, and thinking like scientists. It has made such a huge difference in my classroom already! The kids were so excited when the boxes arrived, and honestly, so was I. Having these new resources has really changed the energy in our science department for the better.\r\n\r\nSince we got the Science World magazines, reading looks a lot different in my room. Instead of just staring at a dry textbook, my students are actually excited to see whats on the cover. These \"texts\" help them learn how to look at real-world data and figure out the difference between a fact and an opinion, which is a huge skill they need. I love using the new stool to sit right with my small groups while they read. It makes it feel more like a book club and less like a lecture. We even use the new whiteboard to draw out diagrams of what we're reading, like how a food web works or the way a virus spreads.\r\n\r\nI've noticed that some of my students who usually struggle with reading are the ones enjoying this the most. The pictures are so bright and the stories are about things they actually care about, like space or new tech. One of my students who usually doesn't like to participate at all ended up leading a whole discussion about deep-sea creatures last week! He used the new whiteboard to draw out the different zones of the ocean and everything. It was so cool to see his confidence grow. It has transformed our science classroom, particularly during our recent microbiology unit. Previously, cleaning petri dishes and lab equipment was a cumbersome and time-consuming process, limiting the scope and frequency of our experiments. Now, with the dishwasher, we've been able to dive deep into culturing bacteria from various environments, observing growth patterns with unprecedented ease. One memorable moment was watching the sheer excitement on my students' faces as they witnessed the sparkling clean glassware, ready for their next experiment. Their eyes lit up with a renewed sense of scientific curiosity, realizing the professional-level tools at their disposal. The efficiency of the dishwasher has allowed us to focus more on the actual science, fostering hands-on learning and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're building upon our microbiology findings by designing an experiment to test the effectiveness of different cleaning agents on bacterial growth. This project will allow students to apply their newfound skills in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication. We plan to present our findings at the school's science fair, showcasing the real-world applications of microbiology.
