The pattern blocks with shapes were used as the students learned about AB, AAB and ABC patterns. The trays helped with organizing and separating the pieces. On a typical day, my students have very independent play and struggle with interactive play and 'stealing' all the resources to play with themselves. \r\n\r\nWe approached this project differently requesting multiple sets of of the figures so that there were enough animals for each child to have their own set as to not have to steal cows and goats from each other. It has been amazing to watch their interactive play skills grow. Just yesterday, I had a student walk up and hand me an animal to 'trade' for a new one to share for the first time instead of trying to snatch a desired item without communicating with anyone. These materials that were receive through this project have been a game changer in therapy for several of my students. \r\n\r\nI primarily use them with a classroom dedicated to students with Autism. They have loved these stories. They get excited each week to participate in language therapy and see the familiar characters of Matt and Molly each week. I think by far their favorite part has been getting to act out the stories week tackle each week. Their reactions, expressions of emotions, and understanding on language concepts through these hands on stories have been priceless! I also use these stories with my general education students as well, some of my friends who have a harder time with comprehension have also been so successful with these materials! \r\n\r\nMy favorite part is that it saves so much time which can be invaluable as an educator. The lessons and visuals are done for you in such a clear and concise manner. As a therapist it allows me to tackle so many targets such as comprehension with WH questions and story retell, higher order thinking questions, vocabulary, and active listening all with in one lesson. The students demonstrated immense joy upon receiving the huge bean bag chairs, lap desk activity trays, large art trays, flower floor pillows and meditation pillows. They couldn't wait to use them. I am so impressed with how much the kids enjoy doing their work away from their desks. They consistently demonstrate greater quietness, concentration, and task engagement. They enjoy learning more and their grades have improved. \r\n I am so proud of this project because flexible seating has given my students the option to control their physical environment, allowing greater flexibility and control of their surroundings. It has provided them the autonomy and comfort to stay engaged and focused. This has led to increased student engagement, increased motivation, better academic performance and improved overall behavior. I was so excited to add flexible seating choices into our classroom, and I could not be happier with the outcome.
