The products for Keily's Corner are beautifully displayed in our food pantry. Each week during distribution students are given items of encouragement from our table. Keily has also planned to take these items out into the community by providing bags to school counselors in our local elementary schools. These Care kits contain snack items, a card of encouragement and items with positive phrases and self care tips. Your support has made an incredible impact on my students and the learning taking place in our classroom.\r\nAs soon as the fish molds arrived, my students were buzzing with excitement. Many of them had never heard of Gyotaku before, and seeing the realistic molds sparked immediate curiosity. They were eager to touch them, compare textures, and imagine how the details would transfer onto paper with ink. One student even said, \"These look so real—this is going to be awesome!\" Their enthusiasm set the tone for a truly memorable hands-on art experience.\r\nWe used the molds to explore the traditional Japanese technique of Gyotaku, allowing students to study texture, form, and printmaking in a meaningful and culturally rich way. The moment students pulled their first prints was unforgettable—eyes widened, smiles spread, and the room filled with proud exclamations as they saw the delicate scales and fins appear on their paper. For many, it was the first time they truly connected art-making with cultural history and scientific observation.\r\nThese resources have already elevated classroom engagement far beyond what I could have achieved with images alone. The tactile experience helped students understand how artists capture details from life, and it encouraged them to slow down, observe closely, and take pride in craftsmanship.\r\nNext, my students will be using the skills they practiced through Gyotaku to create a mixed-media piece that combines printed textures, watercolor backgrounds, and written artist statements. They will reflect on how traditional techniques influence modern art, and they'll begin to build a small portfolio of printmaking work.\r\nYour contribution did more than purchase materials—it made a joyful, inspiring learning moment possible. Thank you for investing in my students and supporting meaningful arts education.","fullyFundedDate":1760454836158,"projectUrl":"project/holy-mackerel-its-gyotaku/9422784/","projectTitle":"Holy Mackerel!
