They asked every single day when the snacks would be here. One day, in the middle of a lesson, I got a call to my classroom phone, and the front office reported that I had several boxes waiting downstairs. I just looked up at my kids and said, \"Guess what?\" A couple of them asked, \"Are they snacks here?\" I just smiled, and they burst into cheers! It's not just about the food; they feel loved and cared about. They couldn't believe that people they don't even know wanted to send them snacks so they could focus in class. We paused everything just to unpack the boxes and load up my storage shelves.\r\n\r\nWe always start class with a warm-up activity or something motivating such as \"Random Applause,\" or \"Where do you stand?\" (They get to stand on their chairs or crouch down to show their level of agreement with different statements). After I introduce their reading or task for the day, they get started, and I walk around with my snack-basket. They each can choose one snack. In the photos I've attached, you'll see my kids working with focus and diligence, surrounded by granola bar wrappers and Welches Fruit Snack bags. They are fueled, they are focused, and most importantly, they feel loved and cared about. They know that I consider their needs important enough to reach out for help in meeting them, and they are much more able to value themselves and their success because of it. \r\n\r\nI know some teachers raise money for really cool things such as Science projects, technology, field trips, and more.
