With your amazing donation by funding our grant we were able to start making an impact with students and families at home. Each student takes home multiple gameboards a month to play learning games that support our benchmark standards with their families. This is a fun and educational way for families to support child while having fun. The gameboards can be used with all of the different card packs (focused on a particular benchmark standard) that are sent home. This allows the students and their families flexibility to play their favorite game while reviewing. In December, we received the books for each student to take home. It was amazing to see how happy each student was able to take home a brand new and interesting book to use! \r\n\r\n We not only used the resources for reading but have also expanded the use of the gameboards to also include home math and science game packs to review! The families are absolutely loving it. We also found a way to share the instructional videos with parents that are now translatable into over 70 different languages. This is especially helpful so that ALL families can help support their students now that the language barrier is no longer an issue. We are enjoying the ability to send these game packs home as students aren't seeing it as just learning...they are having fun! Parents are loving the grant because they can truly able to partner with us for their child's proficiency!","fullyFundedDate":1758830051441,"projectUrl":"project/partnering-with-parents-for-proficiency/9474027/","projectTitle":"Partnering with Parents for Proficiency","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Herman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10082731"},{"teacherId":10281907,"projectId":9761036,"letterContent":"I am writing to share the positive impact that incorporating ukuleles into my elementary music instruction has had on my students. The ukulele has proven to be an exceptionally effective tool for fostering engagement, joy, and meaningful musical learning in my classroom. \r\n\r\nFirst and foremost, student engagement has increased significantly. Because the ukulele is developmentally appropriate for young learners, students are actively involved in making music rather than passively observing, which keeps their attention focused and encourages participation from all learners, including those who may be hesitant in traditional music settings.\r\n\r\nIn addition to higher engagement, the ukulele brings a noticeable sense of joy into the classroom. Students take pride in learning to play a real instrument, and the ability to perform songs independently builds confidence and enthusiasm. Music class becomes a place students look forward to, fostering a positive emotional connection to school and learning. This joy often carries beyond the classroom, as students are eager to practice, perform for others, and share their musical accomplishments at home.\r\n\r\nFrom an educational standpoint, ukulele instruction strongly supports musical learning. My students are developing foundational skills such as steady beat, rhythm, pitch awareness, chord structure, and ensemble performance. Soon they will be reading chord charts to strengthen their music literacy. Playing together promotes listening skills, cooperation, and self-discipline. I am looking forward to more opportunities for creativity, composition, and cross-curricular connections.","fullyFundedDate":1760731713715,"projectUrl":"project/uke-can-do-it-building-music-skills-thr/9761036/","projectTitle":"Uke Can Do It! In the 15 years that I have worked at Pinellas Central Elementary, we have never had an outdoor sandbox. Students would use shovels to dig in the mulch until they found sand. But, because of your generosity, they no longer have to dig for sand - instead they get to dig IN the sand!\r\n\r\nThe sandbox arrived unassembled, so we had to wait for it to be put together. The gentleman that assembled it put it together outside of the playground. Out of the 48 children in our Pre-K classes, about half of them were watching the assembly through the fence. When they brought it in, there was cheering from all! \r\n\r\nAlthough there are many students who benefit from this, it impacts our students with disabilities the most. One of my autistic students likes to dig in sand, but hates to get dirty. He has clean sand to dig in, and a place to sit. The sandbox is also a teaching and therapy tool for students with speech and language issues, as we can sit next to them and have conversations, which enrich their language and speech skills. \r\n\r\nI honestly cannot express how much this sandbox means to me. Your support has provided something that will enrich all of our students for years to come. For my Kindergarteners, they love the community helpers' figures. This goes along with a unit I teach. They have fun acting out the helper's jobs. My students like the timer given because they are able to judge where they are at in their assignment and how much time they have left to complete. This is also teaching them time management. \r\n\r\nMy students love the brand-new crayons and how they are organized by color in the box. One of the pictures show how excited a student was to see the box of crayons. The crayon sharpener has been a huge help. The dry erase markers have been a huge blessing with my 3-5 graders. They love the variety of colors they can pick and how easy the erasers erase. \r\n\r\nThank you for helping my create a portable calm-down bag. I am in many different rooms in the school. With the creation of the bag, I am able to help my students' self-regulate when they have a moment of uncertainty. Your gift has truly transformed our mornings. The students are now excited to come in each day, eager to dive into creative and engaging challenges before the first bell even rings. It's been such a joy to see them collaborating, problem-solving, and thinking critically in such a fun and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation goes beyond just morning work. The students enjoy the activities so much that they've started asking if they can use them during our \"Fun Friday\" free time! It's clear that these resources have sparked a real love for STEM and hands-on learning, and I couldn't be more grateful. Your support has made a meaningful difference in our daily learning experiences. We have utilized the light table as well as the manipulatives to enhance numerous learning concepts. I want to share with you that students were extremely excited the first day that we introduced the light table into our classroom. The first activity that we completed was sorting letters versus numbers. We completed this activity whole group and students came back to the light table and completed it during their free choice center time. Another fun activity that we did was having students gather around the light table and choose a translucent uppercase letter. Students were asked to study the letter and then sort the letter based upon whether it had curved lines or straight lines. Thanks to your kindness my students are more engaged in learning activities and lighting up learning.\r\n\r\nWarm Regards,\r\n\r\nFelicia Jenkins","fullyFundedDate":1738250481830,"projectUrl":"project/help-pre-k-kiddos-light-up-learning/8817336/","projectTitle":"Help Pre-k Kiddos Light Up Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jenkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9776192_orig.jpg?crop=142,142,x0,y3&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1729006913688","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9776192"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_46920","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":483,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":36,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":71.4,"schoolId":46920,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pinellas Central Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Pinellas Central Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/pinellas-county-schools/pinellas-central-elementary-school/46920"}
