They were so excited to learn that each of them would be able to dig for gems with their very own mining kit! \r\nWe created a room transformation that turned our rooms into bat caves that needed to be mined for precious minerals. We had the kits, blacked out windows, and headlamps for each miner. The lights were low and the black lights made their clothes and even certain gems glow. How unforgettable!\r\nAfterward, the students were able to classify their minerals with what we have learned about properties and check with the booklets that came with the kits. They could test the minerals' streak color with the brand new streak plates that came! We then were able to take it even further with the extra materials received for rocks, rock and water cycles, and weathering and erosion. I conducted read-alouds that extended their learning and led to more wondering and more research. \r\nYour generosity and support mean the world to me and my students.","fullyFundedDate":1755813156029,"projectUrl":"project/can-you-dig-it-weather-and-rocks-shape/9364814/","projectTitle":"Can You Dig It? We now have a place for everything needed that can't fit in their table caddies as well. We are so appreciative of this community of donors. It may seem like a trivial thing...snacks. But it is so much more than that. These healthy snacks are a part of our day. Something that each student, at one time or another, needs. These make them feel safe, comfortable, energized, and loved. \r\nThere were even Gluten and allergy free items included that could span the range of students and exceptionalities we have. Having snack-time once or twice a day (especially when they are with us for at least 7 hours a day) is essential to a daily routine and to the students' positive and healthy development at this age. \r\nThis project gave the students a sense of comfort, knowing we had something if breakfast was forgotten, or the lunchbox was not full enough. It gave the students the ability to choose what they wanted. Having choice is so important and lets them figure out which healthy snack is not only their favorite, but which one benefits their body and mind the most. Again, thank you so very much.
