Having flexible seating has always been a wish of mine for my students over the years. Teaching ESE populations entirely now, it became a near necessity. Because of the flexible seating I have had less disruptive behaviors due to having to attempt sit still or sit in a plastic chair, a drastic decline in the number of incidents of students falling out of tilted chairs, the students have become more focused, and participation has increased. \r\n I truly see a different group of students for my 7th and 8th graders that I also had last year. The new group of 6th graders are excited to have at least one of their classes, which happens to be the only double block class, have options for them to sit in. They love being able to switch from one option to the other as needed. \r\n Thank you for helping my students thrive! It would not have been possible without donors like you. Now they can wiggle their waggles away and learn!","fullyFundedDate":1750486184222,"projectUrl":"project/move-and-learn-with-flexible-seating/9116141/","projectTitle":"Move and Learn with Flexible Seating","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Majava","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3850022_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734731179586","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/majava-specialized-ela"},{"teacherId":3850022,"projectId":9014823,"letterContent":"My students love novel studies and were so excited to get NEW books! The ones from the school library are classics, but not always the most engaging. When you are already struggling with reading, using books that aren't interesting to you, make it even harder to learn new skills.\r\n\r\nWe have used The Hobbit and Ender's Game to not only practice reading out loud, but to deepen skills we have learned throughout the year. We have worked on identifying plot points, character traits, and setting. We have also used the books to make predictions, describe the impact of character actions to their growth and the plot, as well as use critical thinking to identify foreshadowing and author's purpose.\r\n\r\nIn my room, we read a chapter (or a portion of a chapter if it's longer) each day. We then make a mind map of each chapter to summarize it. Students list characters and traits, important events and details, and make predictions of what will happen next in the story citing text evidence. Then, being an ESE classroom, we listen to the chapter again via an audiobook version to reinforce the content. We are about halfway through each novel and the students are excited to finish them!","fullyFundedDate":1734926302229,"projectUrl":"project/the-hobbit-and-enders-game-novel-st/9014823/","projectTitle":"\"The Hobbit\" and \"Ender's Game\" Novel Studies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Majava","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3850022_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734731179586","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/majava-specialized-ela"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_47163","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":890,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":62,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":71.4,"schoolId":47163,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Sumter Middle School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"South Sumter Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/sumter-county-school-district/south-sumter-middle-school/47163"}
