The biography books are much needed as the ones we have in our Media Center are really old and about people that the students do not know. They about people that are not like them and most of them are not alive anymore. Our main goal is to get the students to read but when you have books that they can not relate to, they will not read or check them out. My goal is to get the books that they will want to read and about people they can emulate. These books we received have brought positive attention to our biography section. Your contributions have helped my students get through some rough days. As I mentioned in my proposal, a hungry child will have difficulty learning and it is so important for me as a teacher to make sure that there are no hindrances or distractions to my students' ability to learn in the classroom. \r\n\r\nThe snacks were also used to help motivate students to participate in class activities. When we are about to play a learning game and I pull out my big bucket of prizes and snacks even those students who would normally opt-out, jump in to participate. As much as we would love to think that engagement should always be intrinsically motivated, for some students it is external and they have to see what the immediate reward is for their efforts. \r\n\r\nI would have more pics but I started giving out the snacks as soon as I received them so there's not much evidence left. So I will be needing more in August. The student's eyes lit up, and you could see by the smiles on their faces that they were excited. The teacher stated to me that it always feels like Christmas for them when I bring items down to the room. At that moment, it reminded me why I go the extra mile for a population of students that are truly underrepresented.\r\n\r\nThey feel a part of a community, and these items allow them to serve others. If it had not been for Mazda Corporation supporting my efforts, this joy would have gone unnoticed.\r\n\r\nThanks to the generosity of Mazda and private donors, our classroom has been transformed into a more family-supportive environment. Your support goes far beyond the supplies—it brings about joy to the students and help to the families. Students in need go there to get lunch and they are served by a population that in so many words are forgotten. My next steps are to prepare for the upcoming school year to do Project Over the Weekend and make certain students eat when there away from school.
