The digital universe and the speed and convenience of access to information and the additional crutches of iterative artificial intelligence \"robots\" to draft and craft essays may be stunting creativity and literacy. A return to slow and intentional learning by handwriting and brain time may help this generation of students in my classroom, at least, find those benefits again.\r\n\r\nMy school district, the Hawaii State Department of Education, recognizes that literacy is and will continue to be a struggle for our population in the 50th state. Balancing the importance of STEAM and related technologies with skills of communication - reading, writing, and speaking - cannot be lost. Prioritizing the practice of social skills and social interaction intentionally allow me to make these connections with my students, and have them take these skills beyond my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1771772668154,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-consumables/10110737/","projectTitle":"Literacy Consumables","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Tanabe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5255877_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1521964163140","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5255877"},{"teacherId":8976676,"projectId":10104739,"letterContent":"Thank you for our new products! They enjoy having professional looking photos to capture their class projects.\r\nLearning how to hem has been easier for the students with the use of the fabric chalk, iron and ironing mat blanket. Now we can easily outline where they need to cut and have a lower learning curve with the hemmer foot.\r\nStudents also enjoyed creating their own memory booklets using the binding machine for their projects and the rolling desks allows the materials to go to each student rather than having the students crowd in one area. Lastly, though not at the top of the students' minds, the Swiffer dusters help keep all of our new items in good condition.","fullyFundedDate":1771602253253,"projectUrl":"project/iron-things-out/10104739/","projectTitle":"Iron Things Out","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ben","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8976676"},{"teacherId":5255877,"projectId":10010837,"letterContent":"As apparent from the handwritten notes, students appreciate the attention to detail in the room. While functional, it was a constant challenge to project assignments while trying to keep sensitive student information private on a split screen. Now, I can project lessons from my laptop while conducting one-on-one student conferences at my desk. I no longer have to worry about accidentally sharing a student's work or grades with the entire class.\r\n\r\nThe desktop monitor is also much larger than my laptop screen, allowing me to work far more efficiently. I can now grade without struggling to read small print and can easily manage multiple windows while lesson planning. Because of your contributions, our students didn't just practice for interviews, but also learn how to answer questions about themselves in a positive manner. We hosted various community volunteers who provided one-on-one, 15-minute interview blocks for our students. For many of our learners, this was their first time in a formal professional interaction. Having the folders and stationery allowed us to provide organized interview packets and rubrics, making the experience feel official and high-stakes.\r\n\r\nYou might wonder how something as simple as printer ink changes the learning dynamic. In a world that is increasingly digital, our students overlook the value of documents in print form. Your donation meant that every student, regardless of their financial situation at home, could print out their resumes and cover letters at no cost. The folders you provided allowed those documents to stay in their form, rather than crumbled-up paper that we see too often nowadays!\r\n\r\nWe also want to thank you for the snacks provided for our volunteers. Our community members gave their time freely, and being able to offer them a hospitable environment in the library kept the energy positive and the conversations productive throughout the day.","fullyFundedDate":1759628053406,"projectUrl":"project/future-ready-building-confidence-throug/9773412/","projectTitle":"Future Ready: Building Confidence Through Interviews","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Teraoka","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9196762"},{"teacherId":8626801,"projectId":9777489,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible generosity.
