We use it every single day, and it has truly been life-changing for our classroom community. Our old rug simply didn't have enough space for all of their little bodies, and it didn't give any kind of visual structure—which meant constant issues with personal space (or lack thereof!). This new rug has been the perfect solution. The individual rectangles give each student a clear place to sit, and the colorful border full of pictures and letters makes forming a circle so much easier—something that is surprisingly tricky when you're five or six! Instead of the daily chaos of trying to make a \"perfect circle,\" they now just find a picture or letter and poof—problem solved. It has removed so much stress and added so much joy.\r\n\r\nThe rug itself is absolutely beautiful. It is bright, colorful, and full of sunshine—exactly what me and the kids love! My classroom is full of colors and rainbows because I believe we all need a little brightness to carry us through our day, and this rug ties the whole room together. It truly feels like we have always had it. I can't imagine the space without it now. When it first arrived, the students were over the moon. They loved the colors, the pictures, and especially how soft it was. They were so gentle with it and treated it like a treasure. One of my favorite parts of this whole experience was that my Kindergarten aide—who is AMAZING and a retired teacher herself—helped me choose the rug. After it arrived, she realized it was the exact same rug she had in her own classroom when she taught. We laughed and said, \"Great minds think alike!\" Even the kids noticed because they've seen pictures of her classroom before!\r\n\r\nWe are so lucky to have such a supportive community that believes in helping classrooms grow through Ðǿմ«Ã½. Your donation didn't just give us a rug—it gave us structure, comfort, organization, and so much happiness. In the future, I hope to request a full social-emotional learning package, because one of my biggest goals as a kindergarten teacher is to guide and strengthen social-emotional skills that kids don't always get a chance to learn anymore. Yes, I want them to grow into amazing students—but more than anything, I want to help them grow into amazing little PEOPLE first. Thank you for believing in our classroom, in my students, and in the future we are building together. I cannot express my sincerest gratitude for the generous support of the books: Wonder by R.J. Palacio and Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone. These two powerful stories left a lasting impact far beyond the pages.\r\n\r\nThe point of these books were to not only promote literacy but also diversity, empathy, and resilience. They have proven more than to open the hearts and minds. Through Wonder, students learned about the importance of kindness, acceptance, and empathy. Auggie's journey reminded them that everyone has struggles, and it's not always visible on the surface. They came to understand how vital it is to treat others with compassion and dignity, even when it's hard or uncomfortable.\r\n\r\nBlood on the River helped students promote literacy through diversity, empathy, and resilience by stepping into a different time. They see the hardships of others through the eyes of a child their own age. It sparked conversations about identity, injustice, and perseverance. Students began to see history not just as dates and facts, but as a collection of deeply human stories. They still carry meaning today.\r\n\r\nThe exposure to these books are done as a whole class, and as a whole class, I was able to witness their thoughts and struggles with many of the topics. Students could very easily relate and could empathize with characters. We discussed reactions to and tried to think of better ways to handle some of the conflicts. These became very good conversations. They learned that we don't always know what someone else is going through, and that every person deserves respect and understanding.\r\n\r\nYour donation made this possible. You gave our students more than just books. You gave them tools to become kinder, more thoughtful, and more resilient individuals. The lessons they've learned will extend far beyond the classroom and into their communities, their relationships, and their futures","fullyFundedDate":1740930334365,"projectUrl":"project/empathy-diversity-and-resilience/9133275/","projectTitle":"Empathy, Diversity, and Resilience","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jackson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9932198"},{"teacherId":9932328,"projectId":9133631,"letterContent":"Thank you just doesn't seem like enough to convey how impactful your donation has been to my students. I just want you to know how much I appreciate your willingness to give back to teachers. I couldn't wait to apply because I knew exactly what I wanted to add to my classroom to enhance my students learning. I have noticed over the 20 years I have worked in and taught kindergarten, an increasing lack of fine motor skills when my students begin school. Many are unable to hold and cut with scissors, hold a pencil correctly, or even write with a pencil, as they have never been given the chance to try these tasks at home. I needed a way to help build stamina in my students while keeping it fun and engaging. I currently have 23 students in my class, the majority of which come from low-income homes. It has been a delight to see how these letter activity sets have helped improve my students' attention, concentration, and coordination. It is exciting to see them strengthening these fundamental skills without even knowing it. My students love working with the letter boards. We use them EVERY. SINGLE. DAY! They are having fun learning and they are happy as they do it. As a teacher, I can't ask for much more than that!
