This is my first year teaching in a 1st grade classroom and no grade-level switch is easy, especially as a second year teacher! I cannot express how thankful I am for your support in helping me fit my classroom to my students' needs. My students were also so excited to see all of their new books and learning tools for their classroom and have loved using every one of them!\r\n\r\nOne of the most important donations in our package was the JBL Bluetooth Speaker, which has been such a useful tool in allowing all students to hear educational videos and brain breaks at a more comfortable level since we do not have a reliable speaker system in the classroom. The students have loved being able to hear the music and sing/dance along to songs in a much easier fashion. Thank you!\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, my personal library is leveled out by Guided Reading Level. All students have a personalized \"book bin\" with an assigned reading level specific to them based on their state testing scores and observations from the classroom. Each week, students are able to pick four new books within their assigned reading level, and one from anywhere in the library based on interest, to read during our Independent Reading time and other various parts of the day.\r\n\r\nAll the early reader books you donated to our classroom fit to the variety of interests amongst the students, and also expose them to a plethora of new topics, both Fiction and Nonfiction, that they may have never learned about before. This grows and encourages curiosity for reading in the classroom and allows them to keep searching for new and interesting information to build background knowledge. This background knowledge is crucial for deep understanding and comprehension, especially in upper grade levels. \r\n\r\nThese books also fit to the very large span of reading levels amongst the students. Although we are a 1st grade classroom, we have students reading as low as a Kinder level, and as high as a 3rd grade level, with the rest spread all over in between. Because our district ranks low in state reading scores within our conference, providing my students with a classroom library that includes a wide range of book levels to meet their diverse needs is crucial to closing the achievement gap and supporting all learners.\r\n\r\nAgain, I cannot express how thankful we are for your support in our classroom. Because of you, we are able to provide a much more comfortable and appropriate learning environment for students every single day for years to come.
