Thank you so much for making this project possible. While we are still introducing supplies gradually from the moment it was funded, students have gotten the opportunity to work with resistant weights and weighted athletic equipment during the instructional window. At first, I was blown away by the excitement that filled the room. My first goal for this project was to create an eagerness to be at school to learn. I feel that this was established in our first lesson using the materials purchased through this project. My second goal, was to create a better focus in the classroom. Unfortunately, we fell a little short on this one. The excitement was over powering and actually hindered the ability for students to focus. This did improve as time passed but the initial response was extreme happiness. \r\n\tOne of the key components of this project was having the ability to use these resources with my semester class of 8th graders during the class, Medical Detectives. In our first unit, students will learn about vital signs of the human body such as temperature, respiratory rate and pulse measurements. Having these resources will allow students to conduct observations about these measurements when influenced by exercise.\r\n\tAdditionally, access to this equipment has helped several students that are not in my classroom. Occasionally, I will have students who might be having a difficult day or students who need the weight of the equipment to find a calm place. As a person who has a lot of anxiety, the weight of the equipment can change ones mood relatively fast. I have several students who use the resistant weights on a daily basis to better there performance in basketball. I am excited to see which student will find their way over the basketball rim first. \r\n\tThank you so much for funding our project, Exercise Equals Focus. You have blessed my students with a positive way to learn, promote a healthy lifestyle and ways to manage their anxiety. I am so thankful for the opportunity this project has created.
