They were excited to use the \"astronauts\" to be certain that their written sentences were appropriately spaced as modeled at the large whiteboard with the large spaceman and then practiced with the individual spacemen at student boards. \r\nWe are planning to use the Fairy Tale kits as we listen to a variety of classic fairy tales and connect the problems to the world of science and engineering. My kindergarteners are looking forward to using the kits to design and create solutions in a fun and playful way. Legos and building kits are such engaging tools for my kindergarten learners. They were beyond thrilled to add some large LEGO base plates to our LEGO learning bin. Just the opening of that package allowed so many more students to design and build at the same time. They were so happy to work collaboratively in the same space on the base plates. \r\nWe are planning to use the Fairy Tale STEAM kits to explore how we might solve the problems posed in fairy tales and other stories and relate those solutions to our real world problems. The materials will put a playful spin on problem solving. I can hardly wait to see what they decide and design. We have a regular practice of \"clapping the beat\" to determine how many syllables are in words that we hear, so we used the new rhythm sticks to \"tap the beats\" of the words. Just adding those novel materials brought brand new life to a regular classroom practice. Student engagement SOARED!\r\nWe also have used them for tapping musical rhythms during our regular classroom \"brain and movement breaks\" during the day. My kindergarten students are learning to listen and feel the musical beats as well. The rhythm sticks are being used to build cross curricular connections for my young learners.
