I have been collecting books to build a library for my students ever since our school library was closed last year to make room for a STEAM Lab. While I was excited about the lab, I was heartbroken that our library had been neglected for so long and then ultimately taken away.\r\n\r\nThat loss inspired me to open my own classroom library. I started by donating age-appropriate books from my personal collection and scouring every thrift store and garage sale in the area. While I've had some success, we truly needed more variety and more of the titles the students love most.\r\n\r\nIt has been a huge success! I welcome students from any grade level to check out books, and we have implemented \"First Read Fridays.\" Every Friday, students pick a book, examine the cover, share their initial opinions, and read the first chapter. After writing a short analysis, they share their thoughts with the group. If they're hooked, they check it out! It's been wonderful to see them so excited about having access to books again.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this happen; we all truly appreciate you!","fullyFundedDate":1765134986089,"projectUrl":"project/gonna-make-them-readers-again/9942152/","projectTitle":"Gonna Make them Readers Again!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wallace","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1934537_orig.jpg?crop=1330,1330,x403,y1118&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764725793058","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1934537"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15227","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":346,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":82,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":73.2,"schoolId":15227,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Amite High Magnet School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Amite High Magnet School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/tangipahoa-parish-school-system/amite-high-school/15227"}
