Because of your generosity, encouragement, and support, these spaces have become more than just corners of the room — they've become places where imaginations grow, confidence blooms, and little learners discover just how powerful their voices can be.\r\n\r\nOur Reading Center has quickly become a favorite spot each day. Whether students are snuggled up with a book, exploring new stories, or practicing their sight words, you can see their excitement. They light up when they recognize a word on their own or proudly \"read\" a story to a friend. These moments might seem small, but they are huge steps in building a lifelong love of reading. The cozy seating, engaging books, and hands-on materials you helped provide make reading feel fun, safe, and inviting — and that makes all the difference.\r\n\r\nOur Writing Center has been just as magical. They feel proud to call themselves \"authors,\" and their confidence grows every single day.\r\n\r\nThese centers aren't just about learning letters and sounds — they're about building independence, creativity, and belief in themselves. They are places where students learn that their thoughts matter, their stories are important, and their voices deserve to be heard.\r\n\r\nAs their teacher, there is nothing sweeter than watching a child say, \"Look what I wrote!\" or \"I read this all by myself!\" Those moments happen because of the opportunities you've helped create.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our classroom, our students, and their futures. By creating this project I was able to keep snacks for a couple of months for them to fall back on when their families could not afford snacks for them to bring. \r\n\r\nWhen my students saw me open the box of snacks they were beyond excited! They wanted to know every detail of how I was able to make it happen for our classroom. These weekly magazines have made a remarkable difference in our reading instruction and in the excitement my first graders feel about learning.\r\n\r\nThe new texts introduce important early literacy skills that are essential for young readers. With each issue, my students practice nonfiction comprehension strategies such as identifying the main idea, using text features (headings, captions, diagrams), learning new vocabulary through context, and asking and answering questions about key details. The magazine format allows them to experience authentic informational text in a way that feels inviting and accessible. We also use the issues to build background knowledge, make predictions, and connect what we read to our own lives—all critical components of strong reading development.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active, joyful, and hands-on. Students work in small groups, partner-read, highlight important information, and participate in guided discussions. We pause to look closely at photographs, talk about nonfiction text features, and practice reading aloud with fluency. For many of my students, having their own copy of Scholastic News makes them feel like real readers with real materials—not just worksheets or textbook pages. They love that they can touch, annotate, and revisit the pages whenever they want.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have particularly blossomed since receiving these magazines. One of my reluctant readers now eagerly asks, \"Is it a Scholastic News day?\" because the topics feel interesting and manageable for him. Another student who usually struggles with comprehension lights up when she can point to a picture and explain what she learned—something she feels confident doing with these texts. Several students take their magazines home to share with family members, excited to read the articles again and show what they have learned.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has brought real-world reading into our classroom and created meaningful moments of confidence, curiosity, and discovery.
