They couldn't wait to open up the boxes to see the new books that they would be reading soon. Each day, the phone would ring in my classroom, and they would ask if there were more books and can I could go down to the office and get them. It made my heart so happy to have students this excited and fighting over who is going to get the boxes and who is going to open them. Once they got a chance to do a quick preview of the books, the next step was to choose which state they were going to read about and do their state research project on. We found that having these books this year, compared to printing off website articles, resulted in the students learning significantly more. They couldn't wait to share what they were learning about each of the different states. The book illustrations in the books were amazing and brought the experience to life for them. Students were able to relate what they learned in their geography lessons to the geography of the different states. The way the state books were laid out, it was easier to teach nonfiction text features. We read during reading, social studies, and writing time. Each student created a slide show, poster, and typed a short paragraph about their state. They were able to share their finished products at their end-of-year parent-student conference. I can't wait to start this project again with my next incoming 4th graders.","fullyFundedDate":1746369438652,"projectUrl":"project/mrs-coffins-social-studies-library/9270967/","projectTitle":"Mrs. Coffin's Social Studies Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Coffin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9572420_orig.jpg?crop=799,799,x274,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738797945280","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9572420"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_65537","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":496,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":74.8,"schoolId":65537,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central Community Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Central Community Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maine/rsu-64-msad-64/bradford-elementary-school/65537"}
