So far, we've received 5 months' worth of issues of both ACTION and SCOPE. I felt like sending photos of the magazines themselves would be rather dull, so I asked my students if they'd be willing to be in a photo with the materials. The only students who didn't look at me like I'd lost my mind were the students in my smallest reading intervention class. I had just received the January issue the day we took the photo, and they were beyond excited to get their hands on it so quickly, even if just for a quick pose. I had to promise them that we'd read them the very next class. :)\r\n\r\nWhile my on-level and above-level readers enjoy the magazines as well, I really am surprised at the significant impact they've had on my below-grade-level readers in my intervention classes. Two students, a sixth grader and a seventh grader, who both lacked confidence with their reading fluency in September are now volunteering every month for read-aloud roles in the reader's theater plays featured in each issue. Reading aloud in front of other students, and feeling safe and confident doing it, is monumental for these particular students. Plus, it's building an even stronger community of readers within our classroom which is something I hadn't even considered. \r\n\r\nI am still floored by your kind and generous donation. My students and I will continue to enjoy the magazines throughout the year as we anticipate each month's new content. What's extra special is that your donation won't just serve the students I have in my classes this year. I am keeping all of the magazines so that I can continue to use them for years to come. While some of the articles may not be as \"timely\" in future years, there are many features in each issue that are more or less timeless. Not to mention those reader's theatre plays! They will continue to be enjoyed for years and I look forward to watching more and more tentative readers come out of their shells while reading and having fun doing it.","fullyFundedDate":1727562572710,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-reluctant-readers-with-high-int/8552686/","projectTitle":"Engaging Reluctant Readers With High-Interest Multigenre Magazines!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ericson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5411267_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723153859286","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5411267"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64818","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1177,"numTeachers":66,"percentFrplEligible":35,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":32,"percentWhite":31,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":90.0,"schoolId":64818,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Takoma Park Middle School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Takoma Park Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/montgomery-county-public-schools/takoma-park-middle-school/64818"}
