We are using these resources during daily reading and writing blocks. Students choose books from the shelf to practice reading strategies, build vocabulary, and make text-to-self connections. The notebooks have become a special place where they write sentences, short stories, and reflections as they grow more confident expressing themselves in English.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were beyond excited. Their faces lit up when they saw the bookshelf and realized the books were just for them. Many students immediately wanted to browse the books and asked when they could start using their new notebooks. That excitement quickly turned into motivation—they take pride in their writing and feel encouraged to participate, even if English is still new for them.\r\n\r\nYour support has given you a glimpse into our classroom, and I'm happy to share that our next steps include using these books and notebooks for a personal narrative unit. Students will read mentor texts from the bookshelf and then use their notebooks to plan, draft, and illustrate their own stories. These resources are helping them build literacy skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our students and investing in their future. Your kindness is helping our ELD learners find their voices—one book and one notebook at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1761249349200,"projectUrl":"project/writing-our-future-bookshelf-and-notebo/9585794/","projectTitle":"Writing Our Future: Bookshelf and Notebooks for ELD Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Meza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9712893_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725247323234","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9712893"},{"teacherId":8134669,"projectId":9598329,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation! Their faces lit up with excitement as they chose their favorites, and it quickly became a fun way to celebrate positive moods and good behavior in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe students were eager to share their stickers with each other, and it sparked so much joy and encouragement. When my students first saw the magazines, they were so happy! They opened them right away, looking at pictures and trying to read the words. These magazines help them learn new words, understand stories, and feel excited about reading.\r\n\r\nIn our class, we use the magazines in small reading groups. Students take turns reading and talking about new words. One special moment was when my second graders read about animals in winter. They were excited to share their own stories and made \"winter animal fact sheets\" from the article. It made me so happy to see them learning and feeling more confident.\r\n\r\nNext, my students will use the magazines to practice writing. They will write about what they read in their own words. Each student also has a composition notebook to write their thoughts, summaries, and creative stories. This will help them become better readers and writers.
