They are loving being able to pick from a variety of healthy snacks. \r\nTheir favorite so far has been the pudding cups and the apple apple squeeze. \r\nThey are definitely not picky when it comes to food. However, because I was hired the day before school started, I didn't have the opportunity to prepare my classroom with some of the essential tools and supplies that help students thrive. This project changed that. It has transformed my classroom into a place where students not only learn but also explore, create, and grow in ways that reach beyond traditional methods.\r\nThe Lakeshore sorting sets and word mapping boards have become a daily part of our classroom routines. In kindergarten, young learners need to be active participants in their education—sitting still and listening for long periods simply isn't how they learn best. These materials give students the opportunity to engage in meaningful, hands-on activities during center time while I am working with small groups. The sorting sets have helped children strengthen classification skills, pattern recognition, and problem-solving abilities. The word mapping boards have been a wonderful tool for early literacy, helping students connect letters to sounds and build confidence in word formation. These resources keep students focused, curious, and excited about learning.\r\nThe individual abacus sets have been equally impactful for our math lessons. Many kindergarteners learn best when they can see and touch the concepts they are exploring. The abacus has given my students a tangible way to understand counting, addition, subtraction, and number patterns. I have watched students' faces light up when they suddenly \"get\" a concept because they were able to move the beads and see the numbers come to life. For some of my learners, this tactile experience has been the difference between confusion and confidence.\r\nThe basic classroom supplies we received were just as important. Simple things like pencils, crayons, and paper may seem small, but for a brand-new classroom, they are the foundation of everything we do. Without these essentials, students can feel left out or unprepared, and that's not how I want any child to start their education. This project made it possible for every student to have what they need to participate fully in activities and lessons.\r\nBeyond academics, these resources have had an emotional impact as well. My students know they are cared for and that their classroom is a place where their needs are met. Having access to quality materials has boosted their independence, encouraged collaboration, and fostered a sense of pride in their work. For me, as a first-year teacher, this support has been invaluable. It has allowed me to focus less on what we are missing and more on how to make every moment of learning meaningful.\r\nI will always remember my first class and the generosity that helped shape their kindergarten experience. Thanks to this project, they aren't just learning the basics—they are building the skills, curiosity, and confidence that will carry them far beyond this school year.","fullyFundedDate":1746786114835,"projectUrl":"project/focus-on-centers/9219077/","projectTitle":"Focus on Centers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gardner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9988106_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743386878177","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsgardnersclass"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131280","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":85,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":70,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - K","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":131280,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dr Brenda Hague Early Learning Center on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Dr Brenda Hague Early Learning Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/ecorse-public-schools/dr-brenda-hague-early-learning-center/131280"}
