My students have consistently had fully charged computers to do their work on. Something we really struggled with before getting these extra chargers and charging station was making sure that the devices were plugged in and were being rotated through so that all devices could get some kind of charge. Now, we don't have to worry about that: each device has a spot and each device has its own power source!\r\n\r\nAs a social studies teacher, I try to integrate technology literacy with my students by having them use the internet to complete research projects. We learn about verifying information we find on the internet, how to access credible information sites, and how to interpret the information into our own words to avoid plagiarism.\r\n\r\nI also coordinate the school yearbook and my yearbook crew has been so appreciative that the devices hare 1-1 with chargers. They know that on days when the social studies classes before them use the computers, there will always be devices with a charge because we have enough now. \r\n\r\nMy students have taken pride in keeping the cart neat and organized; one took the initiative to color coordinate the plugs to prevent them from getting tangled. I always have students who want to end the day plugging in all the devices and straightening the Chromebook cart for the next day.","fullyFundedDate":1766772873419,"projectUrl":"project/supercharged-research/9967741/","projectTitle":"Supercharged Research!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Girgen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9702729"},{"teacherId":8673476,"projectId":9780074,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for all that you have provided our robotics students with!\r\n\r\nThis year we had a record number of incoming 6th grade students that were immediately interested in joining our robotics classes and our robotics teams. And this was in addition to our returning 7th and 8th grade students!\r\n\r\nThe students on our robotics team officially met afterschool during our ALC programming time, but also on Saturdays at a local library. What's more is that those on our robotics team were able to work during class time on this year's FIRST Tech Challenge (Decode) to design mechanism and code to operate the robot to take in and launch 5\" \"artifacts\" into a goal. Launching objects is something that we have never been tasked to do before. \r\n\r\nOne challenge we faced was with the number of competing designs our students developed. With two teams and two competition robots, it was hard to test new ideas without disassembling components from one of our two robots. For this reason I wrote out a Donor's Choose project to add to our resources one more complete bot. \r\n\r\nI wanted our newer robotics students to start from scratch assembling the REV mecanum drivetrain, equip the Control and Expansion Hubs, configure the motors, and write the code for basic operation. \r\n\r\nThis has been an incredible learning accessory for them, as they witnessed firsthand what it takes to get a robot operational! Prior to assembling this bot, they relied on fully assembled robots and minor adjustments to design and code from previous versions. \r\n\r\nWith this said, thank you so much for helping us to expand our capacity for design and operation within our robotics program! We can't wait for next year's challenge to be assigned next school year (usually late October).","fullyFundedDate":1769469002295,"projectUrl":"project/competitive-motion-in-first-tech-challen/9780074/","projectTitle":"Competitive Motion in FIRST Tech Challenge","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Schadegg's Technology Class","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8673476_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1675980272404","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8673476"},{"teacherId":9631307,"projectId":9860210,"letterContent":"Good day.\r\n\r\nI would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of the project, \"I Will Survive: Keeping Science Resources Ready for Action.\" Your donation of a laminator has made a meaningful difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, our students were able to laminate their projects and visual aids, helping them present their work more clearly and confidently. My students, like most, get distracted pretty easily, but one thing that i've noticed works well for them is to listen to music as they complete their assignments. With students being able to each borrow their own set of headphones, it helps them to focus and get their work done. Students saw how these are nice headphones and have taken responsibility over them. They want to make sure that they can continue to use them, so they have taken extra good care. They love the fun colors, being able to listen to music, and I love that student having their own headphones kind of puts them in their own space where they can focus on their work rather than people around them talking. Having a class set of headphones has been especially helpful in expanding the assignment choices! For example, students who may need extra reading support are able to listen to the audiobook while other students read independently. Additionally, students are able to use the microphone attachment for work where they read off the computer and it records their accuracy. \r\n\r\nOverall, your support with funding this project has greatly improved my classroom environment and learning conditions. The impact has been truly fantastic.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes of materials arrived—full of the bright new markers, sharpened colored pencils etc. It looked like Christmas morning. My students were so excited to open the boxes (and about the bubble wrap that came with haha). Their reaction was one of excitement, gratitude, and appreciation. It made them really realize that people they don't even know have contributed to their education and they felt so supported and cared for by that. The biggest moment was when they saw the new pencil sharpener (after dealing with the struggle of the broken one all year) literally cheered. For 7th graders, having their own fresh supplies—rather than the dull, broken ones we had—is a huge confidence booster. It validates their work and makes them feel respected and eager to take more accountability for the materials. \r\n\r\nWe have been able to do fun goal setting activities that we turned into a fun arts project. Also, we just talked about graphic novels and they made THE CUTEST comic pages with their brand new supplies and they had such a good time but they also turned out so good! \r\n\r\nThank you again so much! This year speed has been a top priority. \r\n\r\nI also want to include a note on the steadily growing excitement and engagement of our students in designing, building, and coding robots to operate. They are experiencing, first-hand, not only what it takes to engineer controlled and automated machines, but also their own abilities in doing so. Robotics engineering may sound like a lofty pursuit, but with time and resources robotics is within the reach of even middle-schoolers. \r\n\r\nWith the REV Servo Power Modules you have provided us we are able to utilize VEX robotics motors (specifically VEX 393 motors) that have been part of our school's curriculum for longer than I've been teaching.
