The containers, cart, and shelving units are adding great functionality to our work skills class. The students were thrilled to put the cart togther and even more excited to push it through the halls. Other teachers were very jealous and wanting to \"steal\" it for their use!! It was quickly labeled indeed. \r\n\r\nOne particular student, who is often difficult to engage, became very upset when he had a hard time getting the wheel started. However, big win was noted, when we were able to work through it and then he showed off the cart with pride afterwards. Often times, people forget or are scared, to let them try because of their disability and fear of being hurt. With these tools, such as a the rocker knife and electric scissors, they are able to participate in more tasks, including more tasks similiar to peers.\r\n\r\nWe are continuing to develop our work on exploration of a variety of adapted materials for advanced activities of daily living. While 11th and 12th graders can be a tough crowd, they truly valued receiving travel-sized items for their backpacks. To reinforce these lessons, we've established \"Grab-and-Go\" stations at our community work sites. I have one student in particular, who is often challenging to engage, who loves to match the \"right\" scent of lotion with the theme of the motivational card. We also have had many laughs regarding what we might want to smell like. It has been determine that most of us do NOT want to smell like \"Milk\" and the milk lotion is often put back into the bucket, rather than into a kit. \r\n\r\nWe have delivered kits to our district superintendent and other individuals at the district office. Recently, we had a request for 10 kits to be used when program work coordinator is meeting with potential businesses to set up job sites. With these resources we have been able to create accessible opportunities for my students. \r\n\r\nWe used the mini potters wheel to wind yarn for pom poms, a problem I was trying to solve when I found out this project was fully funded! We have been busy with hand built clay these last couple months and utilized the materials to paint glaze onto pottery. We had our most successful sale to date selling gnomes we glazed with these materials. \r\n\r\nI am most looking forward to using these materials in the spring when we start using glazes that we can dip our clay work into.
