These resources have transformed phonics instruction from passive learning to active, hands-on engagement. Students are now able to physically manipulate letters to construct, deconstruct, and rebuild words, which strengthens their understanding of sound-symbol relationships and spelling patterns.\r\n\r\nThrough daily word-building activities, students practice segmenting and blending phonemes, identifying word families, and recognizing common spelling patterns such as digraphs, blends, long and short vowel patterns, and inflectional endings. The use of magnetic letters allows students to visually and kinesthetically connect sounds to graphemes, reinforcing orthographic mapping and promoting automatic word recognition.\r\n\r\nWhite boards provide immediate opportunities for practice and feedback. Students can quickly apply newly taught skills, revise their thinking, and correct errors in real time. This reduces fear of mistakes and encourages academic risk-taking, which has led to increased confidence and participation during whole-group and small-group instruction.\r\n\r\nThese materials also support differentiated instruction. Students who require additional practice can build words at their instructional level, while advanced learners can manipulate more complex patterns and multisyllabic words. The flexibility of these tools allows instruction to meet students where they are, ensuring growth for all learners.\r\n\r\nSince incorporating these resources into daily instruction, students demonstrate stronger decoding accuracy, improved spelling transfer into writing, and increased independence when encountering unfamiliar words. The classroom environment has become more collaborative, interactive, and student-centered.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has directly supported foundational literacy development and has created meaningful, engaging learning experiences that will continue to benefit students throughout the year and beyond. We are deeply grateful for your investment in our classroom and in the success of our young readers.","fullyFundedDate":1742917784322,"projectUrl":"project/phonics-tools-for-first-grade/9177271/","projectTitle":"Phonics Tools for First Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Villanueva","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9970370"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_12510","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":536,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":68,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":34,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"13.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":43.8,"schoolId":12510,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Back Bay Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Back Bay Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/mississippi/biloxi-public-school-district/jeff-davis-elementary-school/12510"}
