As a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist providing services to students in Pre-K all the way up to 5th grade, having engaging, up-to-date materials makes a tremendous difference in the quality of therapy I can provide. I spend much of my own money on resources for my students (which I love to do!), so your generous contributions allowed me to refresh my new classroom with new toys, books, and essential supplies. The looks on my students' faces were priceless when showing them all of our new resources. They could not believe someone donated so many new items to our classroom! \r\n\r\nSince receiving these materials, I have already seen the positive impact in my sessions with my students. My younger students enjoy using the new toys (especially the paint sticks) to create their own pictures and projects to display in my room, while my older students are really enjoying all of the new books (especially 'Press Here') to strengthen their vocabulary, reading comprehension, and language skills. These resources create a warm, motivating environment that helps students feel comfortable, confident, and excited to participate.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is felt every day in my therapy room. They enjoy exploring the different sounds they can use and listen along with the demo songs. Some students preferred using their headphones while playing the pianos but most wanted to create and play songs for one another! \r\n\r\nMany of my younger students have extremely short attention spans so the variety these keyboards offer allow them more time to experience their own music and create a specific sound. I can prompt them by asking if they want to play a happy or sad song, we work on fast and slow tempi, etc. We write songs about each holiday or what the holiday would sound like to them, if the weather is a bit snowy we create a snow storm song, when it's sunny we make \"sunny day\" sounds. Using the environment around the students helps them focus on an idea and guides them to a more completed composition. If students are simply given the direction of \"play what you feel,\" I often find they are unable to find one emotion or subject to settle on and they freeze atthe piano. Having a more specific direction or choice between a few motivates them into action. \r\n\r\nThis was an excellent experience for them and it opens up loads of compositional lessons for my special needs students and other grades!
