Snacks and bottled water are available whenever a student needs to reset, refocus, or simply get through the day, and the impact has been immediate. The hygiene items became part of a powerful classroom moment as students stepped into the role of product testers—openly discussing, evaluating, and promoting items as normal, useful, and acceptable. This helped remove stigma and showed students that caring for themselves and others is something to be proud of.\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were excited, relieved, and genuinely grateful. The reaction to the bottled water was especially memorable—students expressed how much it helped them feel supported during long days. Several students used the hygiene products and snacks as inventory for their student‑led businesses, practicing budgeting, pricing, and marketing while solving real‑world problems they see in our school community. The calming sand quickly became a favorite personal focus tool, helping students regulate emotions and stay engaged during lessons.\r\nNext, students are continuing to grow their startup ideas by reflecting on social impact and responsible business practices. They are branding, making value‑based decisions, and learning that successful businesses can also be kind and community‑focused. Your generosity has given students more than supplies—it has given them confidence, dignity, and a classroom where they know their needs matter. The moment I unveiled the new Cricut supplies, my students lit up. They crowded around the table, pointing out tools they recognized from sample projects we explored together and imagining what they could create. Their excitement was so genuine that several students immediately began sketching ideas and submitting proposals for their own student‑run businesses.\r\n\r\nEven in these early days, the materials are already shaping real entrepreneurial thinking. One group launched a \"rock company,\" painting encouraging messages on stones to uplift others during tough moments. They come to class eager to create, often asking if they can purchase additional supplies to expand their ideas. Another team has already bought three water bottles and is preparing to cut custom vinyl designs after break. Their enthusiasm is so strong that many students have said they can't wait to get back to school so they can keep building.\r\n\r\nWe also have a student designing digital products who is now using the Cricut materials to create innovative, professional‑looking business cards. Across the board, students are learning to think like creators and consumers — selecting materials, comparing costs, and building budgets that reflect real‑world decision‑making. Our focus on \"adding value\" to both the product and the customer experience has already sparked thoughtful conversations about quality, pricing, and purpose.\r\n\r\nYour generosity didn't just provide supplies; it opened the door for students to see themselves as capable entrepreneurs. They are dreaming bigger, planning smarter, and stepping into school each day with excitement and ownership. We can't wait to share how their businesses grow from here. Our district is struggling with attendance, and I am confident that projects like this one give students a reason to want to come to school and skills they will use for a brighter future.","fullyFundedDate":1758837145207,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-hustle-fueling-student-run-sta/9551712/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Hustle: Fueling Student-Run Startups","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jackson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1872867_orig.jpg?crop=595,595,x0,y21&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747270032590","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jacksoneconomy"},{"teacherId":8017958,"projectId":9500714,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting my \"Fresh Start\" project! At the beginning of the year, we had our 8th grade health lesson on good personal hygiene. When learning about this topic, we discuss all the ways to keep our body clean. We also talk about body odor and ways to keep our body smelling fresh. Being able to offer each of my students a deodorant while learning about this topic was so special. Students were excited to pick from the 2 different scents. After the lesson, I had students tell me where they are keeping their mini deodorant. Some decided to keep them in their lockers or gym bags, and some brought them home to use. Middle school can be a stressful time for kids, I'm glad my students don't have to add body odor onto the list of things that cause them stress.
